Re: Improving an X61
As a business owner, my response to Windows 8 is "Red Hat." After all, why should I pay to train a lot of very productive employees, and pay MS an arm and a leg on top of that, to help the company be more like Google? However, with the little $5 add-on I mentioned, it's OK. Wait until you see Office...

Re: Improving an X61
Install Windows 8 on an SSD with at least 4GB of RAM and you will be amazed at the speed. If the user hates the interface (as most of us do) you can get a $5 applet at stardock.com that will give you a Windows 7 start menu. I have an X61t with Win8 64-bit and an X60t with Win8 32-bit and feel like I...

What kind of removal tape for drive removal on X220s?
Does anyone know what kind of tape is suitable to use as (what I assume is) antistatic and heat resistant tape that is on the 7mm disk drives for removal assistance in X220s? I want to replace my SSD with a larger one now that prices are dropping and want to avoid using tape with adhesive that will ...

Re: T60 Running the Developer's Preview of Windows 8
You can revert to the classic interface in Windows 8 with a registry hack. You can find it with a search engine; I don't have it with me now. I think it enhances performance almost as much as an SSD although I haven't actually tested.

Recent slowdown in X220 with SSD
Something has recently caused a drastic increase in the boot time of my X220 i7 with 8GB of RAM and the 160GB SSD (4286-CTO). I think it may be the display driver because the lag seems to be a delay with a black screen between the time when the "starting Windows" flag disappears and the GUI appears....

OK to delete files downloaded by systemupdate?
System Update has downloaded over 1.5GB of files to C:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\System Update\session since I got my X220 in June.
Will I cause problems if I move these to somewhere other than my system drive (an SSD)?

Disappointed with quality of new X2X and X1 machines
I recently purchases about 10 x2x and X1 systems. One X220 came with a loose connection on the motherboard (intermittent power-offs when typing or moving machine) and one X1 came with a non-working mic. I think both probably are motherboard issues, and Lenovo will handle them with on-site warranty s...

Does anyone know where to get a 7mm SSD>200GB? I am getting a new X220 and need a larger HDD. I would prefer 256GB. I can find these on the OEM sites, but can't find any available for sale.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: X2xx/X30x Shipping thread
Ordered X220, i7, premium screen with 6300 WiFi and extended battery on 5/11. Expected ship date is 6/24. Selecting a new unit was a contest between aging eyes (wanted a 520) and aging back (got the X220). However, working with the 201T has convinced me that the smaller ones have the display power f...

WiFi n miniPCI card for X23
Does anyone know of a 802.11 n card that will work in an X23 2662-EEU? I realize I probably will have to run at least one additional antenna wire around under the keyboard.
If the system has a card that's not on the BIOS whitelist, will the system refuse to boot or just make a rude beep?

Re: t400s + 5300n
IMO, the 5100 takes too much power on battery. I haven't had other problems with the 5100 - the reception has been good. However, the excess power draw isn't as bad as that one as on the F307g WWAN adapter that came with my T500. If I don't get one of the new x series (easier on the back) I definite...

Re: "No wireless mobile broadband device found." WWAN F3507G
I had the same problem on my T500 switchable with Win 7 x64. Support told me to uninstall the Win7 power management driver, power program and Access Connections and install the Vista versions. I did that and it worked for a few days although i didn't like the Access Connections. I already had the WA...

Does anyone know of a generic program to that enables use of the TPM chip for password management? The Client Security Solution for x64 (Vista x64 or Win 7 x64) is incompatible with an app I can't stop using.

To get the ThinkVantage solutions, copy the C:\swtools folder to somewhere temporary before you install. Everything is there, although Lenovo is posting updated software for Win 7.

Re: How does Lenovo deliver windows 7 specific upgrade?
When IBM supplied upgrades to Vista from XP, it sent what appeared to be plain Vista upgrade DVDs with none of the ThinkPad applets. Consequently, to get the Lenovo applets you had to copy the C:\SWTOOLS folder to a new location before doing a clean install. I would assume Lenovo will do the same bu...

Client Security Solution and Windows 7
You're entirely welcome. The instructions weren't; I just pasted the advice from the other poster into a text file and saved it. I have Win7 x64 RTM installed on my T500. The beta x64 fingerprint software works (except for an occasional "splashscreenwindow" refusing to go away after logon). However, I cannot get the system to accept fingerprints for the power-on and HDD passwords. The message asking for biometric logon appear...

After installing Win7 clean, I installed the beta drivers for the system and the normal Vista x86 drivers / ThinkVantage apps that weren't on the beta driver site. I didn't install the Password Manager. I am amazed th...

The WWAN adapter (mine was AT&T/Vodaphone) said it wouldn't work with this version of Windows, so I told it to ...
