I have about 20 X31's for my class, so just know I'm not new to the Thinkpads. Have all of them to the latest BIOS (3.02). I did the mobo changeout and found the same IR/1394 sub-module pairing issue ... thanks a ton! In reality, I completely forgot to install it, got the 4 beeps, then upon examination, found that there's a sticker on the sub-module and a sticker on chips in the area that shows the pairing (sorta).
