Messed up Wi-Fi
While traveling I had to replace the backlight on my R-31 (or rather had it replaced by a tecnician) Either he, or I (in the removal process) messed up the Wi-Fi antennas it appears. Any hope other than an external Wi-Fi adapter? (which I happen to have a spare lying about but would prefer not to us...

Temperture monitoring R-31 XP
For my desktop I have Intel's system monitor program.
It shows temperture at a number of points, fan speed, voltages, and more
Is there a program that will do at least part of this for a Thinkpad R-31 running eXtrp Painful (XP)?

The drive I had in the 600 was a "Generic" (Toshiba in fact) which did not exactly match the original in regard to the benzel It did, however, exactly match the r-31's original So the problem is the 600's will stick out a bit if it's OEM I don't know if you can dremel it down or not... I do have one...

Hello. Thankyou for your help. :D Hmmm that sucks that the 600E drive will not fit. Actually, The drive, itself will fit, it's the drive adapter that does not fit If you have a deffective R-31 drive you can transfer the rails from it to the drive from the 600E The only differnece in the drives them...

As the other poster said, the 600E is usb 1.0 Why not use a Cardbuss card, they work just fine, I have a Netgear plugged into this unit, I've also used a D-link, (had some problems with it which I now believe may have been 1-D-10-T error (stupid user error) and will re-check soon as I re-find the ca...

This computer has win-98 on it but I think I've seen "network cable disconnected" on some Xp laptops I've played with when the network card had not connected to a host. Do you get the airlink or netgear (Depending on which card you are using) icon in the system tray? You may simply need to remind it...

Audio cards
A good question here is why disable the crystal audio and use USB. Crystal audio is listed as among the best, short of some very expensive professional equipment.

There are multiple passwords, One (Actually more) are in BIOS, this includes the power up password, which is the one you reset by the shorting connections trick (and I'm not sure that those are the right connections, you may have done nothing but kill the battery) There are passwords for power on, ad...

I just have one thing to add to this... Some times ago Bill suggested Acronis True Image to me for backing up a hard drive that was giving me serious warnings... PCMCIA slots can be 16/32 or I suspect (But can not confirm) 64 bits CARDBUSS is 32 bit, always 32 bit, never 16 (Again I don't know if 64 is possble) You can use a PCMCIA 16 bit card in a 32 bit Cardbuss slo...

THat looks just like the caddy from my 600E In the case of the 600 E the drive plugs direct to the computer, there is no "plug" in the caddy, the caddy is a shell that surrounds the drive and centers it in the opening so the plug lines up properly...
