Tim-ANC: Light showing around the edge of the display when it shouldn't. Mostly visible when viewing dark things in a dark room. Pokrzept: I haven't had a problem with my TrackPoint usage, fortunately. I don't see difference when I measure though, either. Were you coming from a W510 or from something else?

Re: My P50 impressions and setup experience
Thanks @creshal. I certainly haven't gotten used to them since my first post. I think I'm going to map some ordinary key combination to them using modifiers and the arrow keys. :( At least it will be portable in the future. Maybe that's not a bad evolution away from keyboard hardware dependency, all...

My P50 impressions and setup experience
I ran a W510 for more than six years, and just replaced it with a P50 (20EN-001SUS, Xeons, M2000M, 16GB, FHD, $1150 barely opened via eBay). Spec sheet here: http://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/ThinkPad_P50?M=20EN001SUS Since these forums were useful to my decision I wanted to drop back in and share my o...

Okay, the exact setting is: BIOS > Config > Power > CPU Power Management > Disabled

Re: BIOS doesn't support booting from USB 3.0 ports
It's too bad, because heftier USB-booting applications, like yours and mine, could certainly benefit from the increased transfer rates. I'm using a bootable USB hard drive to image the system partition while it isn't in use. I could always use a thumbdrive for booting and still use the USB hard driv...

Re: How to kill the ThinkPad navigation keys in Ubuntu?
Figured it out. I remapped them with the CompizConfig Settings Manager. I didn't even have to know what their keypresses looked like to the OS, I just captured them during the customization process. (Though I did find out, via 'xev'. Turns out they are keys 166 and 167 and they appear as XF86Back an...

Re: W510 hiss noise
I had this and found posts suggesting that I disable CPU power saving in the BIOS. I forget the exact line item, but it's toward the bottom of its page and the only two options are "Disabled" and "Automatic". I'll post it exactly next time I reboot. I'm sure people do get similar noises from multipl...

BIOS doesn't support booting from USB 3.0 ports
Just a warning to anyone who hasn't noticed this yet - I wasted some time on it thinking the bootloader was hosed on my USB hard drive. Apparently the USB 3.0 drivers aren't available to the BIOS. They are actually on a separate chip. So even with USB booting enabled in the BIOS, USB thumbdrives and...

How to kill the ThinkPad navigation keys in Ubuntu?
I would like to kill the forward/backward navigation keys that are positioned to the right and left of the up-arrow key on the ThinkPad keyboard. I use mouse gestures for that kind of thing, so all they represent to me is an off chance that I'll hit one while composing a post online, which results i...

Re: Recommendations for SSD on thinkpad T61 with Ubuntu 10.04?
I just put a 120GB G.Skill Phoenix Pro into my W510 after quite a bit of research. The Intels are a great choice for stability and a fine choice for speed that counts, but you have to choose between 80GB ($100) and 160GB ($425). There are plenty of cheap/fast alternatives available, but if you read ...

Re: Multiple Monitors on the W510 - a great solution (with pics)
I have another "so how do I..." question for the video geniuses here. I tried to deduce the options myself, but I'm not digesting the knowledge here well enough to do that. I have a W510 with the 880M, and in addition to the laptop display I want to drive two DVI-D 1600x1200 monitors that mirror eac...

W510 Initial Impressions
Just received a new W510 (4319-2PU) and have some initial impressions to share. 1. I got the classic CPU whine/screech problem. I let myself be annoyed by it for a while, and then followed the advice to disable one of the CPU power-saving features in BIOS. That killed it instantly, completely, and p...

I believe it was stated pretty clearly at one point on LenovoBlogs that there will never be a DVI port in a ThinkPad. They consider their large internal size to be too big of a con, overall. They would always rather put in something else instead. They will put in DisplayPort when that becomes a viab...

Belkin has an ExpressCard docking station that can drive up to 1600x1200.
http://www.belkin.com/highspeeddock/specs/
I believe the x300 can be outfitted with an ExpressCard slot in the drive bay. So technically this could be used. It looks like a nicer dock than the IBM. Even has DVI output.

Right, but when you compare laptops of comparable physical dimensions, widescreen laptops tend to have more pixels. For instance, excepting the X60T and several Toshiba tablets, all 4:3 12.1" laptops only have 1024x768 resolution, whereas all widescreen 12.1" laptops either have 1280x768 or 1280x80...

Yes, I did. I'm pretty sure it works, though I don't remember for certain. It turned out that I needed it to run 2x 1600x1200, and it definitely doesn't do that.Ascidian wrote:Has any one tested to drive 2x 1280x1024 monitors and not the internal LCD, using the the matrox dualhead2go?

I did find a quicker fix. Fn+F7 still brings up the menu it normally does, you just can't see it because the screen is off. So if I hit Fn+F7 and then hit Enter, it re-selects the current display profile and that brings the screen back, albeit after the annoying resolution-jumping that normally acco...

I have a similar, though not identical, problem. Fn+F7 doesn't do an...

I'm ordering a T60 and definitely want the internal WWAN option (Verizon, preferably). But it only comes installed on a small number of models. I would much prefer to be able to choose from all the T60 configurations and just order the card separately. Is that possible? I haven't seen anyone talking...
