FS AU Optronics B140HAN01.2 IPS 1920X1080 panel -used
Just posted on ebay- I've had this panel for a few years, used in my T440P FHD conversion. I's a real B140HAN01.2 IPS from 2013 but is not configured for Lenovo (had AUO113D HW ID) so it would work for a while then get windows confused on power mode change and go blank. I would then fiddle with thin...

Re: T440P with transplanted 1080P IPS panel- windows screen blanking, EDID data?
Update: gave up and tried buying a different panel. First try was a generic clone from one of the US LCD places. That was nowhere near the color gamut and angle of the original. I then found a Chinese seller who actually had old stock (2013) of Thinkpad FRU 04X0436 B140HAN01.2. So I decided to give ...

Re: T440P with transplanted 1080P IPS panel- windows screen blanking, EDID data?
Never mind, I found the answer- these are eDP panels, so they do not expose EDID data externally over I2C like older LVDS panels did. They use an Aux channel of eDP to send all this data. So the EDID eeprom is still there but is accessed differently. I suppose reflashing it directly might be an opti...

Re: T440P with transplanted 1080P IPS panel- windows screen blanking, EDID data?
How is the system detecting the panel though? It knows enough to say it' AUO and use the correct timing most of the time.
Or am i chasing the wrong issue and something else makes windows 10 confused with this?

T440P with transplanted 1080P IPS panel- windows screen blanking, EDID data?
Had this machine upgraded in 2016 ( https://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=68&t=122281&p=789484#p789484 ) and it's been mostly fine, but every so often screen would just go blank after windows starts. If I connect external monitor it would come back and run on the LCD at the wrong resolution. I...

My blog writeups on T440P screen, keyboard and touchpad upgrades
Haven't posted here in a while but figured this may be handy for others. I just completed upgrading my new to me T440P to an IPS screen, backlit keyboard and a T450 style touchpad with buttons. In the process I've collected usable part numbers and specs. Enjoy: Touchpad replacement: http://kuzyatech...

I've been cleaning up my picasa account, so the pictures of the repair now live on my blog, together with the writeup.
http://kuzyatech.com/fixing-an-ibm-thinkpad-x31 I've updated the links in the original post as well.
If anybody needs more details on the repair, let me know and I'll add that.

X31 external monitor under XP
Trying to get external monitor working at its native 1280x102 on my X31, I keep getting this effect where the resolution of the display is stuck at 1024x768, no matter where the slider is. If I go to 1280x1024 it enables virtual desktop on the monitor that's larger than the display itself. ATI app s...

Re: X31- no signs of life. Need help debugging
I'd be careful with the caps- the ones you list are all in a 100mOhm ESR range, the original ones were in 15-20mOhms if I recall correctly. Higher ESR means higher ripple on the output and possibly tripping the same overvoltage protection as the original old caps are doing now. I'd stick with T520 o...

Re: X31- no signs of life. Need help debugging
I figured this might come handy for others. I myself almost gave up on this a few times, but eventually a bulb went up in my head after staring at the signals for a while :) The only other known issues I've picked up on these is memory socket solder tends to get brittle with age, causing errors. Usu...

Re: X31- no signs of life. Need help debugging
OK, here is the scoop: I looked with the scope at the two outputs from MAX1631 (VR2) , at the output caps at the moment right after power is plugged in. I would see 5V come up nicely for about a few ms, then go off. The 3.3V rail would have a "beard" looking amount of ripple on it, so once I finally...

Re: X31 died!
4 beeps is a security chip missing- it's on a small board in the lower left corner where IRDA/firewire port is. May want to try taking that board off, cleaning connector with alcohol and reinstalling it. This one caught me by surprise when I was testing mine and forgot to plug it in. Was completely ...

Re: X31- no signs of life. Need help debugging
Well, it was the caps, indeed, but no type of flushing would've helped them. This one needed some more detective work with oscilloscope followed by some soldering iron magic :) Tantalum output cap (330uF 6.3V) on the 3.3V line was old enough that it allowed a much higher ripple on that bus, triggeri...

X31- no signs of life. Need help debugging
I have two identical X31s that both had a very interesting problem- they would work fine until shutdown or put in sleep mode. After that wakeup would require complete removal of battery/AC adapters and then restart. Finally both are now refusing to boot at all. On power button press I see no LEDs/Fa...
