Downgrading X200 from Vista to XP......sigh. Need help!

Hi forum, I own a X200 (7459-CT0) I have tried at least 10 times now to install Win XP to replace Vista, but I keep getting the Blue Screen of death after the install CD has copied the files, and is about to install. The error message is PCI related, cant remember the exact wording. Based on researc...

Re: Disabling soundcard in X60 Docking Station - Ubuntu?

There is no sound card on the docking station. Are you using external speakers or the onboard speaker? Aha, i just figured there was one since there are in/output plugs. I am not using external speakers - just onboard. Update: I tried to open the screen while in dock, and manually push the volume t...

Re: .mrimg image file and Linux - how to proceed?

Restoring to a different partition is not a good idea, all your registry settings will point to the wrong drive! The boot sector is now located at the wrong position, that's why it is not working. Restore again, but than to the beginning of your HD. Thanks for the response! I have done what you sug...

Manually installing from service partition?

Hello forum, I managed to copy the files from the (otherwise hidden) service partition of my T41, and am now wondering if I can manually reinstall to a new disk if I copy the files to a d drive partition, and install from there to a new C partition? In other terms - is there an install exe or other ...

Re: GUIDE: Reflow GPU fix - 56K WARNING!!!

I did exactly as described, except the IF thermometer I borrowed was all over the place, so basically worked in blind. The worst part was putting the thing back together, I now have 20 screws leftover, and parts that are loose, but nomatternow since the thing just WORKS! and have flawlessly for 2 mo...

Re: .mrimg image file and Linux - how to proceed?

OK, having done some research on the Macrium site, I have found a reference to this very problem on Lenovos site: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-66963#396899 However, with my T41 not having this option in the Bios setup, it is instead called some thing like Pre-D...

Re: .mrimg image file and Linux - how to proceed?

So, I finally managed to get a Macrium rescue CD produced, and was able to roll out the image. However, it did not work for some reason, when rebooting the cursor would just stand in the left corner, and no splash screen etc. I did it once more, and made sure to verify etc. The first time I chose to...

.mrimg image file and Linux - how to proceed?

Hi forum, I experimented with Ubuntu on my T41, resulting in a formatted HDD without service partition (Messed it up trying to resize the NTFS partition) Although happy with Ubuntu, I want to reinstall a small Windows partion for those rare games and apps I cannot get to run under Wine. I have a .mr...

Disabling soundcard in X60 Docking Station - Ubuntu?

Hi Forum

I am running Ubuntu 9.04 on a Thinkpad X60, and if boot undocked, sound works fine. If booting docked, sound is muted (barely audible) - and I am guessing the sound card in the docking station takes over somehow.

Any ideas?

Thanks, M

Re: T41 may be dead - looking for replacement to reuse parts?

Thanks Harry for the suggestion. I imagine it not costing much extra to buy a complete machine rather than a R51 motherboards, but otherwise you are right If I were to reuse memory from the T41, I understand I need a T41 or T42 - T43 and onwards use other memory types? But if that is the only incomp...

T41 may be dead - looking for replacement to reuse parts?

Hello Gents, I have a T41 that suffers from the GPU problem, and I tried to reflow last night - probably unsuccessful, but time will tell for sure. Anywho, If I wanted to buy a used replacement Thinkpad where I would still be able to use parts from the T41 as future replacement parts - what are my o...

Re: T41 - SDD upgrade or not?

Sorry, followup question:

Can anyone point me to an explanation of why I should choose a 'S' over a 'M' SSD drive from Transcend? All their SSD drives end with one of the two letters

Thanks, Mads

T41 - SDD upgrade or not?

Hello all, I have a T41, that I am happy with, but interested in reducing heat (Runs very hot) and reducing power consumption as well. Will the SDD drive help do this ? or is it primarily for performance/speed one would upgrade? Also, I have a chance of getting a Transcend 64 GB for not much more th...
