Re: i7 P1 first impressions. Also: why I did not get the Xeon P1

The keyboard has a great feel. it's like the W540 keyboard, without the numeric keys.

One test I did of battery life, I got 6 hours.

Re: i7 P1 first impressions. Also: why I did not get the Xeon P1

My P1 Thinkpad was delivered 3/20/19. I purchased this system to replace a 5 year old W540, that is a bullet-proof system! I have been extremely pleased with the quality, and performance of the P1. Photography is a hobby, and I use my laptop to post-process RAW image files, using Nikon Capture NX2. ...

Windows rebuilds can give random error messages at inconvenient times  .

Why not use a Linux Live CD and test it that way?

I'd try a live Linux distro just to see if the problem is software. If it is chirping in Windows but not Linux then a fresh Windows install might be on order. If both chirping is from both OS then it's hardware.
Thank you for your suggestion!

I'll try the Linux suggestion.

Intermittent chirping sound

A friend of mine has a X1 Carbon that makes an intermittent chirping sound. Pressing the "mute" button eliminates the chirping sound.

Re: Lenovo ThinkPad W540 impressions

Next month will be a year since receiving my W540. My previous system was a W520. The only complaint I have is the Ultrabay slot is not easily accessible to change from DVD drive to HDD adapter. With a M.2 SSD CACHE, I7 4930MX CPU, 1TB Hybrid drive, and 32GB of RAM, the system is extremely fast!

Re: FNet HybriDisk Cache Software

An update: Instead of mSATA port on my W540, it should have been the M.2 port. The Mydigital 128GB SSD failed, and I've upgraded to the 256GB version, which hasn't been received yet.

Besides the 128GB SSD failure, the W540 has performed great.

You're welcome.

There's a hundred different FRUs for those cards, but you can most certainly pick one up for $5 or so either in the forum's Marketplace or on feebay...

Happy shopping.

Re: Getting a ThinkPad. Please help!

Will I still be running Windows 7 speedily and problem free on T420 by 2020? Yes, for sure. The most powerful CPU for the T440s/X240 is i7-4600U, which is actually weaker than the i7-2640M for T420/X220 and the i7-3520M for the T430/X230. The i5 CPUs are also low voltage and weaker in comparison to...

At this point in the game it's probably safer than XP, and will make the use of this T21 much more palatable.

Latest OS For T21

Many years ago I gave my sister, and her husband a new T21 to use in their business. Since then, they have bought several desktops, and a newer Thinkpad through the IBM EPP program. She has returned the T21 to me, which is immaculate, and works well. The only problem it has Windows 2000, and I would...

Re: FNet HybriDisk Cache Software

I have found the HybriDisk CACHE software will cause BSODs, and cause the audio to break up intermittently. Lenovo L2 have verified these problems. I'm presently running ExpressCache software without a problem. With the 128GB SSD CACHE, I partitioned 50GB for CACHE, and I'm using the remaining 78GB ...
