Re: T60p + Samsung 830 SSD questions

Well, the problem never really was solved or understood and I just lived with it. I'm on the beta program for a drive manufacturer and test lots of system drives on this setup after cloning the contents. Testing can sometimes go for a couple of months. Only the Samsung 830 gave these occasional syst...

Re: My Frankenpad Conversion and Heat Sink Mods [+PICS]

OP is local to me and several years ago helped me out with a swap using some of the magic TIM. It was a thin grey sheet with peel off protective layers - cut to size and apply. The compound itself is fragile and one-time use only - kinda like a fine putty. He assured me it was superior to any liquid...

Re: Who has experience transplanting/ changing LCDs in T61 T60?

I've swapped a few screens on my 14" and 15" T60s. Far from an expert. The 15" is waaaay easier for me to work with. 14" is more fiddly and thinner plastics. On the 14" I used a credit card to help separate the bezel tape. Unfortunately I ended up scraping a surface mount resistor off of the inverte...

Try here and scroll down to the download area: http://www.staff.uni-marburg.de/~schmitzr/donate.html The utility will allow additional control of the fan speeds and also show you the chip temperatures. Motherboard replacement also involves new thermal compound on the heatsink/fan unit. It's possible...

Re: FS: T60, 15" SXGA+ IPS, U.S. built, barebone, UPDATED

Unit #1 is running strong, now with Bluetooth and a nos IPS panel.

BTW, I looked at the LCD inverter and the FRU is compatible with the RBS LED panel mod service. Presumably others of this vintage/batch would have the same inverter installed.

Two recent dealings that deserve praise: - New Old Stock 15" SXGA+ FlexView panel from TuuS. Expertly packed and rapidly dispatched. Works like a charm. Substantial behind-the-scenes communications with valuable info/tips/advice. - Barebones 15" T60 from ajkula66 for an upcoming project. Had a coupl...

Another great transaction with TuuS. My 14" SXGA+ screen up and died and I needed a replacement pronto. TuuS to the rescue with a primo Grade A hand-picked example. Fabulously packed and solid tips for a smooth swap. Up and running in no time with a superior panel.

I'm no FlexView expert (hopefully someday!!) but you can use the excellent free utility "MonInfo" to pull the data from your panel and see what brand panel you have in each case. CCFL bulb condition could also be a factor.

Until I figure out the Over Provisioning button, I'm leaving that alone.

Some good news....no new "HD indicator on, system frozen" episodes since I updated to Magician v4 and applied its defaults.

Re: Any recommendations for a bluetooth mouse?

Been using the Lenovo ThinkPad Bluetooth Laser Mouse (model MOBTC9L) daily for 2+ years. Wonderful mouse! Nice texture, nice size, good battery life, tracks well on all surfaces. Gets a bit jumpy with full-steam wireless activity like a big transfer, but no big deal. I want another just in case some...

T60p + Samsung 830 SSD questions

Been running a Samsung 830 SSD with a fresh install of Win7 x64 since last summer. Works great - no regrets. Couple times a week the system freezes up solid and the HD indicator stays lit - usually while browsing and IE partially loads a page - then I need to hard power cycle and re-input passwords ...

Install the free little utility inSSIDer and take a look at your local landscape to help choose the least crowded wireless channel. Really nice interface.

Re: T60 poor wireless speeds - wireless card or router? or both?

You can add the third wire, but you will need to get creative with antenna placement. I put my third antenna on the right edge of the screen, behind the empty wwan cover, but I needed to trim things a bit. Removing the screen bezel carries some risk. Another potential spot is near the left screen hi...

Re: eSATA cards for T60?

Ability to pass SMART info is good sign! Most of my 3.5" drives are WD, so doubly good. Which card model do you have specifically? StarTech has several ExpressCards with the Sil3132 chipset, but one report on Amazon says it didn't work right with a T60. Hoping I can get away with the $18 card.

Re: eSATA cards for T60?

That's exactly the info I was looking for - thanks! I just compared the detailed thinkpad specs, and both the T60 and T61 seem to share the same capability for ExpressCard 54, so that looks like a good way to go here. Have you had a chance to look at HD SMART data on drives connected through this ca...

eSATA cards for T60?

Anyone have a recommendation for an eSATA card that works well with the T60? Main purpose is to connect bare hard drives up to 2TB in capacity. My Apricorn USB/SATA cable does not really cut it anymore, and I'm also hoping that the various drive manufacturer utilities will correctly recognize their ...

I'm running the same driver version, and all is well, but I'm not doing demanding graphics. I think bmwman91 posted some info on updating with modded ATI drivers for improved performance. I plan to try it, but at the moment I'm good. BK edit: See if this is useful: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtop...

I think the keyword missing is ribbon cable. I fight that dang little connector everytime I put the keyboard back on, and I always worry about getting the alignment wrong and busting something...now I'll be extra careful. In your case I might be inclined to try some epoxy, but then it becomes a perm...

Workaround might be to process the file with Handbrake and output it to something slightly more compatible?

Also, MediaInfo is really great for extracting video file details.

Using a 4965AGN card with third antenna in my T60 project. It's a nice improvement over the original card in all respects. Recently upgraded from a Netgear WG102 AP to a dual-band Asus RT-N66U router. Actually kept the WG102 for G clients and use the RT-N66U for N clients. Really happy with the Asus...

I did a fresh install of Win7 Pro x64 onto a new SSD in my T60p project a few weeks ago. The process was not too painful. Re: Swap boot drive T60 T60p?

As long as your T60 has ATi graphics you should be fine - the driver is the same for X1300/1400 and V5200/5250. I recently swapped boards (from T60/X1400 to T60p/V5250) and I definitley needed to reinstall the WinXP video driver. All else was good. Very unstable until I resolved the video driver. J...

Great tip with the spacebar to delete the fury donut and raise the fps! Just for giggles I did the test again with TPfancontrol in Manual mode at 7 and ran the no-fur burn-in for 15min. GPU rose from 59C to 76C within a few minutes and then held constant for the duration. After ending the test it to...
