Re: T450s Storage Options

1. Yes, the hard drive and M.2 slots are easily accessible for swapping out. I put a M.2 SSD in my T450s without a problem, though removing the back panel for access to the internals is less user-friendly on these new models. 2. Only a 42mm M.2 drive will fit in the slots on a T450s. Larger ones wil...

Hi folks, My wife's X60 is acting up and in need of replacement. She just uses it for basic browsing and light computing. She likes the small form factor, so I was thinking an X201 would be a decent upgrade in speed without getting too expensive. I found one on Craigslist but that fell through, and ...

Any idea which model this is? HP's site isn't too helpful with identifying which models have trackpoints.

OP here. Thanks for the feedback so far. My usage is pretty much business-style usage and extensive web-surfing. I don't watch movies on my laptop, but I do want to be able to fully experience web media without the slowdowns and stuttering I currently get from resource-intensive sites. I'll admit th...

Help with laptop selection please

So I want a faster, more capable computer than my current T60p (2623-DDU), and I’m willing to invest a decent bit of coin into purchasing a high-performing current model. The problem is that current Thinkpad models seem to be lacking in some ways. To be fair, I’m not that familiar with current model...

Re: Suggestions for T40 hard drive replacement?

I have an HM160HC I have the same drive and am quite happy with it. No problems and it was a noticeable step up in speed from the 40GB Hitachi Travelstar I previously had in my T42. Only cost $55 as well so it was quite a bargain compared to the drives you are looking at. All drives will have a war...

Thanks for the offer lazyazn. I'd prefer to find a T4x keyboard or keys if I can, since I'm not sure of the total compatibility of the mechanism for the T6x keyboards. But if I can't find another option I might take you up on your offer. Is yours an NMB or a Chicony keyboard? I'm still hoping somebo...

Anybody have an old keyboard lying around?

My niece dropped a book on the keyboard of my T42 and popped off one of the keys (the "C"). I found a nice thread here with great instructions on how to reinstall the key, but it appears that one of the plastic pieces underneath disappeared when the key went flying, so I don't have everything I need...

Many third-party defraggers will work with much less free space than the Windows defragger. I use PerfectDisk, although it isn't free. If he doesn't want to buy a new drive he probably doesn't want to buy software to address it either. However, PerfectDisk does have a free demo, but I don't know if ...

I would back up the folder itself to a CD, so you don't have to do a full from scratch reinstall if you just need one something in it. After that it is safe to delete ibmtools. Interesting that it requires 2 USB ports. I have an external drive roughly the same size as that enclosure and it is powered by the USB port, but only requires one USB connection. I wonder why the IBM enclosure would require two?

Not sure about ibmwork but ibmtools can safely be deleted. Back it up to CD first - if you ever rebuild the machine that is the only copy you have of the free IBM apps (DVD player, etc.). Ed Gibbs So nothing in this folder is used by the system? I guess the installed versions of the apps and everyt...

Could my old battery really be in such good shape?

I recently purchased a T42 and was able to pull an old battery out of storage to use in it. The battery was from a previous T40 I had and the battery was a backup that was never used. Plus I haven't had the T40 in 2 years, so the battery hasn't been used in all that time. After putting the battery i...

I see from time to time, Craigslist ads that post for sale Thinkpads at ridiculous prices. For example, there have been ads for T43s for $500, with only an email address. I haven't used my VCR in about 5 years, since I've been using DVRs since they were first introduced. I've got 3 of them nowadays. Luckily they update their time every night by connecting to a server, so they won't need a patch of any sort.
