Re: Wireless card for T420s

BIOS version numbers differ between the different systems. T420s BIOS 1.46 is equivalent to T520 BIOS 1.49, both released June 2018. I don't think there's modded versions of either of these or the equivalent T420, X220, etc. BIOSes.

I cant help you with the Windows 10 problem (except maybe have you tried changing the font smoothing options?), but this when I ran Windows 7 on the machine I was getting delays sometimes a few minutes before I had control of the machine again. sounds like the Device-Initiated Power Management (DIPM...

Re: T61p mSATA SSD compatibility

There are a few true mini-PCIe SSDs out there, but they're really expensive compared to mSATA. You also have to do your research to make sure they're not just mSATA adapters that are poorly labeled. Here's an example of one from Innodisk (1ME3 series), though: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Innodisk-64GB-...

Hm, yeah, that makes sense. I may well be wrong about the HD decoder card. You still ought to be able to put that Realtek RTL8191SU wifi card in the WWAN slot and then the HD decoder in the original WLAN slot, though. I never tested the Realtek card extensively, but the overall speed seemed comparab...

Many people use memtest and I've used it with no problems.
Same. I've run Memtest86+ for 24 hours on both a Z61t and a T420s and never had any problems (memory was okay too!). I have no experience with T500 or that generation, though.

I thought there was at least one Broadcom HD card that was USB only, though I never got around to buying one, so I'm not sure. I did buy both the wifi card and TV tuner, though. The wifi card is a Realtek RTL8191SU. The -U at the end indicates that it's a USB model. There's a similar RTL8191S E that...

Re: T60/32bitOS/W7: What to do ???

There are a few other mini-PCIe format cards available that I'm aware of that only require the USB lanes, so they work in the T60's WWAN slot. Things like card readers that could provide some extra storage space or even a straight USB port that you should be able to plug anything you want into as lo...

Re: blue shade on a QXGA screen

If it looks like that even when it's unconnected, then it's just the way the panel is designed.

You might be able to set up the color configuration of the monitor in your OS to counteract it to some extent by boosting the red and green.

Re: Time to upgrade the cpu from t7200 to t7400

My understanding is that Basilisk is the development build of PaleMoon and that once its code base is considered stable, it will be the basis for a major version update of Palemoon. At least that was the original plan and I haven't heard that anything has changed. I did try out Basilisk a few months...

I do everything in PaleMoon. It's a pretty complete browser. The only thing I keep Chrome around for is access to Chrome Remote Desktop. I just checked Youtube in Chrome, though, and performance was about the same as in PaleMoon. 480 and 720p videos played fine, 1080p maxed out the CPU with occasion...

Re: Time to upgrade the cpu from t7200 to t7400

I'd be pretty surprised if upgrading from a T7200 to a T7400 made any noticeable difference. Of course, it's dirt cheap, so you might as well give it a try, but the solution to your problem is probably to dump Chrome at least for Youtube. I use PaleMoon and have no trouble playing anything up to 720p.

Re: T60/32bitOS/W7: What to do ???

The T7600 is indeed the best CPU you can put on T60 motherboard and by now they can be had for pretty cheap, though still several times as expensive as a T7400 without any noticeable difference in performance probably. "Several times as expensive" just means $25 instead of $5 these days, though, so ...

Re: Can I put this wifi AC to T61:Intel 7260NGW AN ?

Intel's bluetooth 4.0 software is installed but at the moment not working and does not get identified at all: I think you have to use the second mPCIe slot (the one above the Expresscard bay). The slot the WLAN card comes in by default doesn't carry the USB lanes which is how the bluetooth on these...

Re: Eeking out every usable between 2 T60s, 2 1gb ram, and 2 2gb ram pieces.

The T60 has an additional problem beyond the limitation of 32-bit OSes. Hardware addresses occupy the memory map above 0xC0000000, which would be the RAM above 3.0GB. Without modifying the BIOS memory map, this memory region is completely unavailable at the hardware level. Nobody has been successful...

Re: Eeking out every usable between 2 T60s, 2 1gb ram, and 2 2gb ram pieces.

The T60 BIOS maps memory in such a way that there's a hard limit of 3.0 GB regardless of what OS you use. You might see a slight memory speed increase on both systems by switching to dual channel mode, but no extra space in the one with 4GB installed. I'd say just leave them as they are since that d...

T420s/T430s battery runtime after FHD or WQHD mod

Hi everyone, I'm trying to understand how these screen mods affect total power consumption and battery runtime on the laptop, since that's the other limitation on the s models. I'm pretty sure the BIOS setting is actually for the fan to always be on. Even with temps down in the 30s, my fan is on if I'm on BIOS control, though it's on the lowest setting, which is pretty silent. Thinkpad BIOS fan control has always been sort of [censored] to be honest. It tends to frequently...

Re: Connecting two monitors to T420

If the reason you're suggesting a dock is because you'd want to use the VGA port on the laptop itself and the one on the dock to run separate screens, I don't think that will work since they're actually wired as the same port. Instead what you want is a displayport to VGA adapter and use the display...

If the T520 is like the T420 and X220 as it is in most other ways, then the BIOS limits the RAM to only working at 1333MHz. 1866MHz memory will still work, but at the slower speed. I don't even know under what conditions the difference between 1333 and 1866 would be noticeable in practice, but if it...

Aside from disabling cores, are there any other methods for reducing the TDP of a CPU? The T420s has two RAM slots, both accessible via the panel on the bottom. The T420 also has two, though the second (or first, really) is under the keyboard. This is the same in the T430 and T430s, which are essentially externally the same as the T420/s aside from the keyboard. One other thing to kno...
