Re: Booting T60 from USB

I have observed that, in general, most people are dumb as rocks (and only even more so when it comes to technology, especially nowadays). Therefore popularity is not a particularly valid metric for me. In fact, in many cases my spidey sense tells me it is an indication to go the opposite direction....

Re: Booting T60 from USB

You can make a FreeDOS boot drive easily with UNetbootin (or Rufus). I just checked and this is what every tutorial I see tells you to do. Not sure why found a more complicated one. I happen to know you can also just DD the FreeDOS USB setup image to your USB drive since it's a bootable FreeDOS imag...

Re: Booting T60 from USB

I don't think I've ever had any issues booting from USB on my Z61t (which is the same board as the T60). All the Linux live USBs I've ever tried out worked fine, plus things like Hiren's Boot CD and Easy2Boot. Those latter two do use Grub4DOS, which is probably what I would use if I wanted to make a...

Re: Maximize battery life span?

To maximize the life of the battery, do the following: • Use the battery until the charge is completely depleted. • Recharge the battery completely before using it. You can see whether the battery is fully charged from the battery-status icon in the Windows notification area. It's odd to see Lenovo...

Re: T430 with faulty cd drive

Those are both Serial Ultrabay Slim drives (for T430s, T420s, and some earlier systems), which means they're 9.5mm high. You said your system was a T430, which has a Serial Ultrabay Enhanced slot, which is 12.5mm high. An Ultrabay Slim drive will still work in an Enhanced slot, but there will be a b...

Re: [X200] Fan malfunctioning, error. Burned?

It seems possible that you just got a loose piece of some debris in the fan and disassembling the system allowed it to fall out. The hiss might have been caused by it rubbing along the inner part of the spinning fan. This once happened to me with the spring from the cardbus door on my X61. I wouldn'...

Re: T520 & External HDMI Display via DisplayPort++

Do you have access to a monitor with DisplayPort in? If so, you should test on that first to make sure it's not a more basic problem with the video output on your T520. I'd also try the DP-to-HDMI adapters you bought on a more standard monitor with HDMI to determine whether the problem is with the t...

Re: How to wear down those trackpad bumps...

Coincidentally, three years later, I've been dealing with the trackpad sticker too since I swapped palmrests again. I ended up solving my original problem by buying one of the T420 palmrest stickers you can find on eBay. They're different from the original stickers and even though they have bumps, t...

Re: Fan Error

You should probably test the new motherboard under load, not just at idle, to make sure the fan ramps up to higher speeds as necessary. Or just manually set higher fan levels in tpfancontrol. On my X61, fan levels 1-5 are all around 3200rpm and 6-7 are around 4000, but I think different fan models v...

Re: How can I tell if an audio card is fried (and how to fix it)?

If a short made the headphone jack always seem to be plugged in, that would show up in PulseAudio Control. Headphone output would always show as plugged and the speaker as disabled. The speaker would also appear in ALSAmixer as hardware muted (MM). I assume OP would have noticed this. My guess would...

Re: Adjusting brightness in Pre-OS environment on a T410, is it possible?

Yes, it is. I don' have the T410 anymore, but pre-OS brightness adjustment is possible all the way up to **30 series at least (just reconfirmed). I'm not able to adjust brightness on my T420s pre-OS and if I boot Linux using "--nomodeset" to disable kernel-based detection of the graphics modes then...

Re: The tale of two T420s and Intel AC 7260\Bluetooth and Pin 51 tape

Can someone clarify for me what's up with the USB lines on the mPCIe ports of the T420s? Re: Experience with Intel AX-200 WiFi?

Just for the record, your earlier problem getting an adapted M.2 card to work in the WWAN slot was because that slot doesn't actually have a PCIe connection on the T420. The full-size slot is wired for USB and SATA only while the half-size slot is PCIe only (no USB).

I don't believe there is any GUI undervolting tool in Linux for Core2 processors. You can do it with the phc-intel module together with cpufreq. phc-intel will need to be built from source and configured with bash scripts, though. That's the world of Linux.

A Raspberry Pi would be an alternative to the CH341a. You don't need both. Any computer with a USB port and running Linux or Windows can work with the CH341a. Re: ThinkPad X61 BIOS issue

Failing that, I believe another of the ways to cure the problem is to purchase a new BIOS chip, have it programmed with a BIOS image from your specific machine Type, un-solder the old BIOS chip and solder in the new one. (The one problem here is if the Security chip (TPM) is active, it may reject t...

Unfortunately, T- and R-series batteries will actually not fit in the Z61t. In fact, there's also more significant differences in the overall moulding, t...

Isn't the 2200mAh battery only for the X60s and X61s models? I thought they wouldn't even fit in a regular X61. The X60 and X61 are supposed to take the "4-cell enhanced" batteries, which are 2600mAh and have ridges on the bottom. I get two and a half hours out of mine in Linux (with TLP, tp-smapi, ...

Re: Wireless card for T420s

BIOS version numbers differ between the different systems. T420s BIOS 1.46 is equivalent to T520 BIOS 1.49, both released June 2018. I don't think there's modded versions of either of these or the equivalent T420, X220, etc. BIOSes.

There are a few true mini-PCIe SSDs out there, but they're really expensive compared to mSATA. You also have to do your research to make sure they're not just mSATA adapters that are poorly labeled. Here's an example of one from Innodisk (1ME3 series), though: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Innodisk-64GB-...

Hm, yeah, that makes sense. I may well be wrong about the HD decoder card. I never tested the Realtek card extensively, but the overall speed seemed comparab...

Same. I've run Memtest86+ for 24 hours on both a Z61t and a T420s and never had any problems (memory was okay too!). I have no experience with T500 or that generation, though.

I thought there was at least one Broadcom HD card that was USB only, though I never got around to buying one, so I'm not sure. I did buy both the wifi card and TV tuner, though. The wifi card is a Realtek RTL8191SU. The -U at the end indicates that it's a USB model. There's a similar RTL8191S E that...

There are a few other mini-PCIe format cards available that I'm aware of that only require the USB lanes, so they work in the T60's WWAN slot. Things like card readers that could provide some extra storage space or even a straight USB port that you should be able to plug anything you want into as lo...

If it looks like that even when it's unconnected, then it's just the way the panel is designed.

You might be able to set up the color configuration of the monitor in your OS to counteract it to some extent by boosting the red and green.

I'd be pretty surprised if upgrading from a T7200 to a T7400 made any noticeable difference. Of course, it's dirt cheap, so you might as well give it a try, but the solution to your problem is probably to dump Chrome at least for Youtube. I use PaleMoon and have no trouble playing anything up to 720p.
