I'd like to disable WLAN automatically whenever a LAN cable is connected. Any advice how to do this? The solution should be such that it can be managed with Windows group policies, and not possible to override by users.
When LAN is disconnected, the machine should try to connect to a WLAN.

GPS in all models?
The notebookreview.com's review mentions that T400s has a built-in GPS receiver. I wonder if it is a standard feature or comes with one of the WWAN cards (Ericsson if I remember correctly).
The reviewer didn't specify which WWAN card his machine was configured with.

Re: Thinkpad T400s ?
Yes, from what I have seen so far this is a very nice ThinkPad except for the missing UltraBay. I wonder why they did this. Was there no space for it? How high is the base? I think the reason is the same as with X300: ultrabay would have made the machine thicker (2-3 mm or so), and they are likely ...

Re: Thinkpad T400s ?
Yes, I could get used to this slightly modified layout pretty fast, but then it would just continue confusing me when I go between this and my older Thinkpads, as well as my desktop keyboards. One of the reasons I am so attached to Thinkpads has always been the standard key layout. I made sure to o...

Re: forget X301 get 400s
The Del key I don't understand. Probably some people complained that it was not large enough? But I can't imagine why anyone would. Personally I don't see the new keyboard layout as a problem, but a welcome evolutionary step. Keyboards have many obsolete keys that most people almost never use: Caps...

Re: optical drive solution for x series other than ultra ba
I've used Sony MPD-AP20U for years. It can't burn DVDs, but runs off the USB power and is tiny. It DOES NOT need the dock often shown in pictures.xmod wrote:Other than the ultrabase, do you guys use an external usb optical drive? what are the pros and cons? any particular recommendations?

Intel 4965AGN wlan slowdowns in XP
I have an X61 with Intel AGN wireless in an XP setup. All drivers and patches should be the latest. The wlan driver version is 11.1.1.16. I have no problem using the net, except when I start heavy downloads such as torrents. The downloads themselves proceed ok, but they slow down the whole network s...

Is X61 tablet's keyboard interchangeable with X61?
I bought a keyboard for an X61 tablet by a mistake, when I was supposed to buy it for an X61. Are the keyboards interchangeable? I wouldn't like to open the box in the hopes for returning it, but on the other hand I would save a lot of time if I could use it.

X60/X61(s) from Japan (Akihabara)
I'm going to Japan next week, and want to buy two X60/61(s) laptops. I live in Europe where I have a flat rate HSDPA (WWAN) subscription. I'd like to have the integrated WWAN card (Vodafone or similar), which requires a mobo with a SIM slot + two PCIe slots. I haven't been able to find any informati...

X40 ATA bus speed?
I've been thinking about replacing the ultra slow 1.8" HD with an UDMA CF card using a ATA-CF adapter. Fast flash memory is expensive, so to avoid paying extra, I need to know how fast the ATA bus is in the X40. Any ideas?

Is X40's SD slot ReadyBoost compatible?
Hi, As every X40 user knows, its 1.8" HD is really, really slow. With XP it's been somehow acceptable, but I almost cried when I installed Vista and started using it. The HD really slows everything down even though there is nothing wrong in the CPU or amount of available memory (1.3 GHz & 1.28 GB). ...

I live in Europe where Thinkpads are notoriously expensive, but coming to the States for a 2 week vacation next month. I'm spending time mostly in NYC, FL, SC, NC and TN. Re: My shipping rant
A year ago I ordered a T42 for my sister into her Manhattan address. A long story short: Somebody at UPS (Bronx) stole the laptop twice, which took a lot of phone calls and convincing towards IBM, and finally the customer service manager ordered a third machine for *herself* in Tennessee, and *FedEx...

Hi, I've got a ~14 months old X40 (1.3 GHz), and its battery life sucks big time. With wlan I don't get much more than an hour. Re: USA Warranties in Canada anyone?
Anyone here with a refurbished TP purchased in Canada, but the TP has an "original" USA warranty? The IBM "autodetect" shows the warranty to be USA and good until Nov'05. Am I stuck with a useless warranty? AFAIK, ThinkPads' warranties are global, at least my USA-bought X40 was serviced in Finland ...
