USB-C/PD to Lenovo small-barrel (5.5x2.5mm) adapter - good or bad idea?
Quick question - Is buying/using a USB-PD to IBM small-barrel (5.5mm outer/2.5mm inner, yellow ring tip center polarity) like this one a "good idea"? https://www.aliexpress.com/i/4000301161842.html The barrel seems to fit the specs but I am a bit weary about pumping 18-20v into a machine that normal...

Re: Thinkpad 560 - ext floppy drive doesn't work **PICS**
The one that came with my 560E is IBM Part # 10H3980, which has a TEAC FD05-HF drive with a 26 pin FFC connector connected to the IBM 21mm floppy interface - the machine itself has a 17mm interface and uses cable with IBM Part # 39F2077. The question here indeed is whether the Fujitsu is pin compati...

Re: Backlight/LCD/cable/inverter replacement on a T21?
Nah, "pink booting" is a sure sign of a dying CCFL. Some people have managed to replace a T2x CCFL, but more often than not it failed. Best thing would be to replace the LCD. Yeah, I figured as much - the CCFL replacement requires an LCD disassembly that is frankly, risky and not easy to pull off. ...

560/560E/560X LCD latch interchangebility?
Does anyone know if the LCD latches on the Thinkpad 560/560E/560X series are mutually interchangeable? I have 2 Thinkpad 560Es here with missing LCD latches (the button on the front of the bottom bezel, and while it doesn't really do much to its mechanical functionality, the fact that it is missing ...

Backlight/LCD/cable/inverter replacement on a T21?
Folks: I am running into an issue with a Thinkpad T21 (2647-5BU) where the LCD will have a pink/mauve screen, and if I press down on the region where the LCD connects to the motherboard, the pink will disappear and be replaced by complete darkness. It will previously boot up with a pink hue, then th...

Ultrabase X6 not recognizing USB or optical drive
Folks:
Having a bit of an issue -
Have an X61 here with an Ultrabase X6, for some reason the optical drive and the USB ports are not recognized nor functional.
Am I looking at a defective ultrabase, missing drivers, or a hardware failure?

You won't see all models in HMM, nor in appropriate xxbook, not for any ThinkPad. From what I'm gathering (mainly because of Custom Tablet Edition) this was a part of a large corporate CTO of some kind... Seems like a fine machine if you can live with XGA...I couldn't and that's the only reason I s...

Other info about the seller could shed more light. Are the outside the US? Will they take Credit Cards, so you can be somewhat protected more than, say, a Western Union money transfer? How much are you saving vs. using a reputable seller on eBay? Sometimes the minimal savings are not worth the adde...

Re: X3, X4 video performance.
I love how so many people are so quick to dismiss the GMA 900. It's much more powerful than we credit it. I play Quake 3 at 1024x768 no problem on it. I'm regularly playing N64 and SNES games in emulators (ZSNES uses OpenGL for the graphics overlay). If you're looking at a Linux platform, I think y...

Re: Some X31 questions.
I know a few of these might of been answered, so pardon me for that. A while ago in 2007 I picked up a broken X31 that would only turn on when I pushed on the GPU. I assumed the GPU was broken because it was dropped while in its MediaSlice or by wear and tear. Are video failures known in the X31 by...

"Not meant for gaming" doesn't mean "can't run games at all". Obviously no overclocking of Intel graphics is going to match a dedicated GPU but that doesn't mean it isn't worth getting the most you can out of it. I play several older 3D games on my X61; if I had no interest in games at all I'd prob...

Folks: I was recently offered a Thinkpad X61 Tablet at a fairly-good-price. The problem is...I can't figure out whether the machine is legit or not. The seller did not give me an s/n (citing privacy concerns), and the system type looks weird - 7763-DK1. The system type maps to an X61 Tablet, but the...

Hm. Replace the bottom case - it might be that one of the grounding points on the chassis is no longer seating properly.
*sigh* - I love my X31 - but averages about one major rebuild a year. Looks like I'll be paying for EZServ for quite a while.

I personally favor the X31/32 series. It's a Banias Pentium-M, keep it clocked down and it'll beat an Intel Atom in both battery life, heat production and performance, hands-down. The keyboard is also very good indeed. The one major advantage of the X3 is that it uses the 2.5" HDDs, which implies ch...

Definitely needs a new drive. The IBM Travelstars only have an estimated running lifespan of about 4 years. The X31/32 are unreliable (well, kinda) for 3 reasons: a) They feature 3 relatively large chips in a row and are unbraced (ATi Radeon M6, Intel Odem Northbridge, Intel Pentium-M) b) There are 2 other large chips (Ricoh Cardbus controller and ICH4M Southbridge) underneath it, in close proximity to th...

That Radeon M6 on should be able to support VESA 2.0 up to at least mode 283 (0x011b), which is 1280x1024/24bpp. As for the fuzziness, that's just the Radeon scaling up a non-native mode on screen (um...800x600?). Getting a stuck HDD caddy out of the X41 Tablet
Okay folks - this one has been driving me up the wall. It seems that for some strange reason I cannot get the HDD out of my X41 Tablet. They'll probably replace the LCD bezel circuitry to fix the ThinkLight/wireless indicator issue.
