Woops. Here I was thinking that it a bundled IBM/Lenovo package that was missing from my machine.
Thanks.

The problem appears to have gone away. The thing that seems to have worked was removing the UltraBay HDD, rebooting empty, reinserting the UltraBay HDD, and rebooting. Perhaps the UltraBay connector wasn't making a good contact and was messing up the writes to the onboard HDD during Hibernate/Standb...

Did you ever resolve this? I've been getting the same problems for the past 3 weeks and am trying to determine the source of the problem. I don't have Sygate Firewall, although I try uninstalling Windows Defender (which didn't make any difference). Anyone had this problem and successfully fixed it??...

Well, it sure sounds like Media Player is expecting different video settings than what your display is normally set to. - color depth (8-, 16-, 24-, or 32-bit) - resolution (are you using the non-default display resolution?) - ATI's battery-saving mode which switches to less power-hungry settings (r...

Yah, I've found the same thing with my T41. It's probably because the BIOS has to provide the password to unlock the drive (which only happens at boot-up time). So either reboot each time you insert the password-protected ultrabay drive, or remove the password on just it. I removed the password on m...

I wasted a *lot* of time and energy trying to get the stock Intel 2100B card to work reliably in my T41. Kept dropping the connection. Just awful. Finally shelled out the 60 bucks for an IBM/Atheros A/B/G card and never looked back. In hindsight, I should have done it when I first got the laptop rat...

Do you also mean within Windows (pagefile)? If so, go to: My Computer-->Properties-->Advanced-->Performance Settings-->Advanced: And check the virtual memory. I would just let Windows choose the value, unless you know what's good for the amount of RAM you have. I upped my T41's RAM from 1GB to 2GB ...

Look in the BIOS for the boot device order. Maybe the USB drive is listed first, and it's hanging looking for it? Try moving things around in the order to put the most likely to be good device first. Just tried that. No luck. So I entered the BIOS and enabled Extended Boot-time Diagnostics and turn...

The problem is that the system will not attempt to boot off *anything* any more. I have an Acronis True Image bootable CD, but it won't even attempt to read it (even if I press F12). It just sits there. Doesn't even ask for my boot-time passwords (unless I use F1 to go into the BIOS menu--that's the...

I'm going to guess you may need to fix your MBR. Click on the HD clone link and read to the bottom about repairing boot sector. That was my first thought. However, it does not even attempt to read a repair floppy or CD. :( If I press F12 at startup, it will say it's Creating a Boot Device List, but...

Not sure whether this is relevant, but just installed RnR 3.10.0022.00 and did my Base backup to an external (USB) HDD. Seemed to work fine. However, when I tried to reboot from same USB HDD to verify the RnR recovery console would work, the system would not get past the initial IBM splash screen (P...

I believe Access Connections somehow corrupted the TCP/ip stack before when I was messing around trying to get fn+f5 back. That broke my wired connection as well (when I tried to repair the connection I would get an error 'TCP/IP not enabled for this connection'. I ran a tool called TCP/IP repair f...

I just ordered the exact model you want from pcalchemy.com on Sunday and it shipped on Monday. I doubt Hitachi is discontinuing them as they haven't announced a replacement for it AFAIK. 7k100 discontinued??
Well, I've got the Ultrabay HDD adapter on its way from IBM/Lenovo... But this morning I found out that the place I'd ordered the 7K100/ATA/100GB from (NCIX.com) says that they've been told that the 7K100 has been discontinued !?! This can't be so... Did I do right removing the brown goop in the GPU heatsink? I removed the dark brown thermal rubber pad from my T41p's GPU initially, but when test-fitting the fan back in place it looked like there would be no way that the copper heat sink would be able to sit snugly against the GPU--there was a 2...

Cheapest way to copy data from T41 HDD to new HDD?
Considering upgrading my T41p's 60GB/7200 to a 100GB/7200 (Hitachi 7K100?). What's the easiest/cheapest way to transfer the contents of my old drive to the new drive? (I have PartitionMagic DriveCopy already). In particular, what *hardware* is required? Do they make cheap ($10) USB harnesses for the...

Grab a copy of SpaceMonger v1.4.0 -- it's free. http://www.sixty-five.cc/sm/v1x.php It will show you a map of your drive(s), and make it really easy to see which files/directories are taking up all the space.
