Or to put it another way...
Having the extra memory will increase battery consumption permanently, every minute the laptop is running.
On occasions when memory-intensive operations are actually processing, you may make up for that extra consumption for seconds or minutes at a time.

Re: 8GB RAM Limit
There's a thread on another forum also suggesting 20 minutes lost on a 9 cell battery and of course it will be a more severe loss on a 6 cell. If the laptop is being used intensively as a desktop replacement then I can see there will be some mitigation due to efficiency gains, but I suggest that the...

Re: 8GB RAM Limit
Why should you want more than 8GB of RAM? You would be hard pushed to find software to run on the X220 that would even use the full 8GB. Look at the specs of the super-fast RAM. The desktop versions even have heat spreaders. That shows how much power they use, so you'd probably need to keep the lapt...

Re: HOWTO: Making a 7mm SSD out of a 9.5mm Crucial M4
I did this some time ago, except that I cut a piece to thin plastic to lay on top of the chips and another piece on the back to cover the Crucial label, before wrapping a turn of duck tape right round it. That way there are no marks on the SSD and it can be made like new again if needed to be RMA'd....

Why not just get a USB external drive? very cheap now and slips in the smallest pocket.

Re: New Thinkpad X1 Pics
EDIT: Maybe I should put up a poll or something, but is there any interest on a "proper" X320? The community rallied for IPS for awhile and at least we know someone at Lenovo listens! That's EXACTLY what I want. An X300 update with the same case and same keyboard, but with a better screen and the S...

My experience is different. I have never had significant wear of Thinkpad keys.

Re: Bad X301 SSD Upgrade Experince
The Crucial C300 works perfectly.
I made an image backup from the original SSD, put in the C300, did an image restore and away it went. Easy peasy.

+1
I'd order one straightaway, but I suspect there are so many other models that this might never happen.

Re: I made a stupid mistake and now my x200 is dead....
I'm a bit surprised that the HD would be damaged by water - they are hermetically sealed to keep out dust and dirt, so plain water should not cause much harm. Also that wouldn't explain why the screen is not displaying properly. It might be worth connecting the HD as a secondary drive to a desktop P...
