I am not really convinced if we need a "Dual Core" processor in a laptop. First, its going to increase the power usage. Then there is not going to be '"dual" chipsets - so the essential parts of the PC are still being shared by both the core. And if I remembered correctly, I read somewhere that the ...

Me too

I have been waiting for the last two years to update my six year old Thinkpad. I think this could be it - this platform refresh and the processor speed of 2+ GHz would be good enough for another 6 years.... Now only if IBM puts in lots of goodies: 1. 'Real' Windows Key (as an option) 2. FireWire por...

I have a 380XD and the maximum memory I could put in is 96 MB (32MB inbuilt + 64 MB in the open DIMM slot).

It's basically EDO RAM and those are really expensive as they are hard to find. I bought mine (64 MB) from a fellow Thinkpads.com forum member - Frank Garcia.

Finally, we have some better drives for notebook

I say its about time... The two areas in the notebook, where the advancements are slow and far between are batteries and harddrives. I have a 6-year old Thinkpad 380XD whose battery life is pretty much (1 hour) in the ballpark of the basic laptop of today.... I wonder how long before IBM picks up th...

I think we should make them all as FAQs and stick them in each of the respective forums....

like 600 Series FAQs and How-tos should go to the 600 series forum.

Yeah, XBitLabs is a pretty reliable source on Intel Processors.

If its consuimg less power than the Banias processors, then we can expect higher speed Dothans in even smaller cases - maybe T50p would be even slimmer than T41p :)

Thanks for that info.

Assuming the architectural tweaks give it about 1.5x more processing power per clock than the latest Pentium 4, this should be one hell of a processor (a 2.0 GHz Dothan dissipating 21 Watts while providing the performance of a 3 GHz Pentium 4 ought to shake things up). I din't see that 21 Watts ref...
