I did my fare share of COBOL in the end of 80's/beginning of 90's... And everyone laughed saying this is a soon to be dead language...

Sorry to hear that. I hope someday the people raise and make them be reasonable again... :(

Hopefully there's some common sense left and the rest will follow, although I'm skeptical...not to mention the long-term social consequences of this entire debacle.
Germany has a similar plan. Austria already eased the lockdown in Tirol IIRC... I guess few other EU countries may follow...

Here in Switzerland we have a lockdown as well. Only supermarkets, pharmacies, banks, post services and public transport is open. All the rest (schools, universities, shops, gyms, et all) are closed. Offices are closed and we're required to work from home. Since I have an IT related job I can do hom...

After that I realized CPU is soldered in. Somehow I took socket as granted, since a year ago I sold Dell M6700 where I even replaced GPU to 980M... Developed the flicker issues after around 3 months - Same T430 as above with EvanJoo adapter on the back of the panel. Developed the flicker issues after few weeks (I tried the same adapter under the KB. Still flicke...

Re: Going to 24GB of RAM on my W540, does orientation make a difference?

I don't think it matters which slot.

My W540 has also 24GB, because I'm using 3x 8GB RAM modules, since one of the slot closing mechanism is slightly defective.

I can't remember though which one I left without RAM, I can take a look later when I'm back at home.

Re: Anyone here own an L440?

I own few L's (A L530 and L450) and they're very nice machines. Kind of a "cost effective" T series without being so cheap like the Edge or E series. I have found some decent deals on these (under CAD $100). That seems a good price. The xx40 generation is the last line of ThinkPads where you can swa...

Welcome to the forum! I think there are ways to still get the Windows 10 update from 8.1 Pro but I'm not sold on that either. I have few X230's in different configs (mostly i5 or i7) and they all work fine with 16GB. But I in all of them I use DDR3-1600 RAM, (I normally stick to the original specs). One more thing, yesterday I got a LP140WF1-SPU1 panel and installed it in a T440p. I'm positively surprised how good this panel is.

It's glossy, but is very brilliant, has an excellent contrast and super viewing angles. If you don't mind glossy I can highly recommend this model.

Linux Mint in a 600x? Which version of Mint are you planning to use? With a max RAM of 576MB you will probably need to be very selective on the version and GUI of choice...

I don't think Cinnamon will work, but I never tried myself... Keep us posted how it goes...

That 2.9GHz is the "turbo boost" info

60 USD for a T440s is cheap IMO, a new SSD won't cost much, and with a little of patience you can get a nice FHD screen (70 to 90 USD more)

Welcome to the forum! As far as I remember the heatsink for the W530 is different and the screw holes are in different places. So your current nVidia heatsink will not fit. The CPU will fit in the slot. However, you can only fully use the 4 slots of RAM of the mobo if you have a quad-CPU, if your cu...

Thanks for the hint, I'll give it a try.

Is there any glue that could work? I was searching in eBay and found some glues that are conductive, like this example: silver conductive glue. Is this an alternative? Or a totally bonkers idea?
