Well, I tried the paperclip trick for a few days. However, I noticed that the back of the dock around the fan area starts to get hot when the fan is not on. I am guessing this is due to the power supply circuitry also being located in this area. For the time being I will leave the paperclip out.

Bottom line: don't do it. It was foolish to even try this operation. I feel lucky that the thing works at all. Does anyone else use the option in Power Manager to only charge the battery to ~95% of its total capacity? This is supposed to help extend the life of the battery, especially if you're using it on AC most of the time (which I am).
