Re: Time to crowdfund the real ThinkPad: let's see how badly we want it

My thinking was to actually get Lenovo design a 12 inches 3:2 machine with butterfly keyboard. We can use the same design for ULV quad core and dual core model. David was open to the suggestion, i am sure i can pitch the idea to the ThinkPad management if people are serious about it. A modern day 70...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

So the news i got 2 weeks or so ago is that the Retro project is stuck at the 16:10 screen stage. Apparently, Apple has an exclusive on IPS 16:10 screen in the 13.3 inches size. They are working with the screen supplier to see whether producing additional 16:10 screens are possible at a reasonable c...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

So a little update for you all, Lenovo still working very hard on the ThinkPad Retro project. A team of Taiwanese diehard ThinkPadders will visit Lenovo Yokohama next week, and they will be briefed on all things ThinkPad (and some details on Retro). Apparently, right now the bottleneck for Retro pro...

well, i guess when you are using the dual 4K, you are bound to the desk. So you can just switch to discrete GPU in BIOS menu, and then change back when you need it when you are using it as laptop.

this is something i prepared earlier. I have two ThinkPad Yoga S1 and ThinkVision Pro2840m. As you can see, the mini HDMI port on the ThinkPad Yoga S1 can support 4k@30 hz.

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

From your comments I understand that Lenovo does not have the technical expertise to do create a Classic Thinkpad ready at hand. I remember, for some Chinese hobbyist engineers at 51nb.com it was possible to create a new motherboard for the T50, but the "professional" multi-million-budget company i...

Re: W530 + dual 4k via dock

So i have just tested the W530 with the 2 x Lenovo ThinkVIsion UHD monitors that i got. In order to get the system to run the external UHD monitors at the native resolution and at 60 hz. You have to switch the system to Nivida Discrete mode in the BIOS setting. The Nvidia Optimus (which runs through...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

There is quite lot of stuffs that goes into designing the ThinkPad Retro apart from the external aesthetics. If Lenovo wants to release the ThinkPad Retro in the next cycle, they have to use an existing motherboard that is already tested and certified. Otherwise, to do a new motherboard (and new scr...

Sorry, haven't been back for a while to update you guys on the project. As far as i know, Lenovo is not abandoning the project. Re: Any EliteBook love here?

@ajkula66,

You do not do any real work when you are on Apple products, you just stare at it and marvel at the Apple logo. So crappy keyboard is okay, since you won't be typing anything.

I spoke to David and Luis about the project, they said they haven't finished analysing and doing the necessary business case behind the option variations.

Once they have anything more concrete to present, David will present the conclusive finding in a blog post.

we are, but doing wiki and supporting a needed database is quite a huge job. Sometimes it is better if the Dell employees can contribute resources to support these great cause. Doing it alone isn't really that fun.

Re: Any love for Latitudes?

asking for Dell wiki and contributors in ThinkPad forum. ;)

I think you should really commit this question to the Dell's own support forum, you will find many people there and see if Dell employees are equally committed to the idea. I am sure having more information is better than less.

Re: COLLECTING VINTAGE THINKPADS: HOBBY, MENTAL DISORDER OR BOTH?

All in all I think collecting Thinkpads is a hobby that's friendlier to the wallet than many other hobbies. For instance enthusiast cars and car tuning. Some of my friends burn $100K on cars, while others build $20K engines in normal cars and take them to the track and sometimes blow them up. I use...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

4:3 screens are available, but the cost of using them is around 500 USD per panel at the time of manufacturing, and for warranty purpose Lenovo need also to keep a few in inventory. Lenovo has keep the price of the ThinkPad Retro reasonable and not make it another ThinkPad Reserve edition.

i had the ThinkPad collecting fever before, i don't know why i am attracted to ThinkPad in particular (i collected Apple laptops and Phone/iPads for a while too). I guess i am attracted to ThinkPad, because there is a clear design story behind each machine, another reason why i liked ThinkPad is the...

Re: Looks like a new W7xx (edit: 17" P70, and P50 replacing W541) is coming out? (small pics)

Most of the workstation class machines are purchased by large enterprises, and they don't really need the upgradability. They do however need reliability and dependability, since many of the workstations are used in harsh environments such as hot desert, freezing tundra and on oil rigs or exploratio...

The P50 doesn't need to be thick, it has two separate cooling fan, which will help to dissipate the heat faster than a single fan system.

Also, If Lenovo ever releases something like T440p and call it a P40, then it will be interesting.
