Re: T40p and SATA drive w/o swapping with cdrom
Hi, Without selling your old thinkpad and buying a T60 Would be to use the Second Hard Drive Caddy (SATA TO PATA) and get an external case (USB) for your Optical Drive. This way you would still have the main drive, A Second (SATA) hard drive and your Burner. But Like George said it Might be cheaper ...

Hi, Just a thought that maybe you forgot to install the chipset driver? I have Win7 on my R52. My problem is getting the video driver in (915GM). But with the standard VGA driver from microsoft I got 1024 x 768 and High Colors. Sounds also like maybe a loose connection of the touchpad. Just have to ...

Hi, I have only bought one third party battery for my IBMs. IT was a BTC (I think). Hi, Is the NIC showing in device manager? Try running SPECCY (from the same people that make Ccleaner) To find out everything about the laptop. Did you try to install from the device manager? Or are you trying to just run the EXE. Another thought is take the keyboard of and see if there was a spill....

Hi,
Your south bridge controls more then your USB... Your hard drive and your Optical drive to name two.
It would be wise to swap out the motherboard or sell the T40 for parts and get a newer laptop if you can afford it.

Hi,
Try using BELARC and see if it can find the Keycode for windows. Belarc will give you full information about your computer. If the keycodes don't match if one is found then run a search for a keychanger. Run the Keychanger and input the one on your COA from the laptop.

Hi, Well the first thing I would say is that it is your choice of batteries. You said you bought aftermarket batteries. I had one that was Brand new. It work great for two charges Then would not charge any farther then 40%. Put an IBM battery in and works like a charm. The problem is not with the ba...

Hi, On the Western digital drives there is a jumper location. I looked up at the Hitachi drive and it look like ther is a space for a jumper next to where the data cable would hook up. It would be only four pins. Remember I am looking at a diagram. Another thought might be that the Grub boot loader ...

Re: Should I go with a T41, T42, T43 or R52?
Hi,
I have both a T43 (2668) and a R52 (1860). I like the R series now better then the T series. 1.8ghz Processor would be the sweet spot as it runs cool. If it has Intel graphics great.
I would take RBS up on his offer as his products are excellent.
