Re: ThinkPads on the job

The W520 is a custom machine I built for the company just for the spectrum analyzer. I'm still doing shows, with two ThinkPads doing all the heavy lifting. We have five more shows this year, I'll post some updated pics of the ground station setup as it is now configured. It's surprising how many thi...

Re: ThinkPads on the job

I resized the images to 800, and will do so in the future. Sorry about that! If the X220 doesn't fill the bill, I'll look into this...thanks! We have user xiphmont on the forum, who is really adept with LED-kits for the X61. See this: https://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=114881 If you as...

Re: ThinkPads on the job

Aloha, This trip was to Oahu, Hawaii for the LPGA Lotte Championship at the Ko Olina Golf Club. Everything went well, our aerial video came out great. Got some shots of breaching whales, nice boats and even a beachfront wedding! Even though we were on the leeward side of the island, it rained every ...

Re: ThinkPads on the job

Aloha Mahalo! Just finished the LPGA tournament at Ko Olina Golf Club Oahu, Hawaii. We had a lot of rain and some frequency interference problems, but everything got worked out. I brought one W520 and one T520 this time, the extra screen real estate was really helpful. Gotta love ThinkPads, they wor...

ThinkPads on the job

Hi all, I started a new gig working on the ground crew for an aerial photography team. We do most LPGA and PGA golf tourneys, so our "season" is just beginning. Here's some shots of a couple of ThinkPads "in the field" at the LPGA ANA inspirational, held two weeks ago at the Mission Hills Country Cl...

Replace beloved X61T... Suggestions?

Well, the time is approaching to retire my trusty X61 tablet. It's been my daily driver for over 5 years at university, and besides poor battery life was just about everything I wanted in an ultraportable. I'm the designated IT guy in my circle of friends and family, all of which have ThinkPads (go ...

Re: what is the most powerful Thinkpad?

Second that on Macrium Reflect.
I used it to do 3 SSD upgrades yesterday, it worked with no issues.
Only problem is you can't go from a larger source drive to a smaller target drive... even if the target drive has sufficient space.

Except for that horrible screen!
Maybe an AFFS display in the future.

Re: T520 mobo upgrade to W520 mobo questions

Thanks for the info! can I still use the i5 with only 2 slots populated on the W520 mobo? i5 max memory address is 16gb. I already have 2 each 4gb sticks. If I filled the extra slots with 2 more 4gb sticks, it wouldn't work? I got and installed the new FHD screen today. No problems installing, it is...

T520 mobo upgrade to W520 mobo questions

Hi all, New T520 owner here. I probably should have asked here on the forum first, but I got "buck fever" and bought some parts to hopefully improve it. The T520 I have is a type 4239-L65. (intel i5-2520M cpu, HD3000 graphics, 1366x768 LCD). It is mint, not a mark, scratch or shine anywhere. Came wi...

Hi all, Thanks for the tutorial link, it is very detailed and concise! I'll take my time and attempt this, as I have all the stuff to do it. I hope that the LEDs on the donor panel come out easily with no damage... I must agree, the Sharp display is really nice. Great color and a very good off-axis ...

T500 LED display conversion

Hi all, I recently picked up a pair of T500s dirt cheap off feebay, and am very pleased with them. One has the 1280x800 LED display with integrated Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics. The other has the 1680x1050 CCFL display with switchable 4500 and Radeon 3650 graphics. I'm mixing and matching parts to get...

ThinkPad lid cleaning and renovation

Hi all, After many different attempts to restore distressed ThinkPad lids to their former gloried matte blackness, I think I've found a quick and safe procedure. First, take a damp white soft cloth with a bit of baby shampoo and clean the lid until no more dirt shows on the cloth. Next, get some Meg...

OOPS I feel like a real dunce.
There is a "touch settings" calibration in Control Panel.

X61 tablet multitouch quit working correctly

Hi all, My trusty X61T multitouch has recently developed a problem with the finger multitouch feature. Both the pen and finger input have worked fine until about two weeks ago, when the finger input decided to go bonkers. When trying the finger touch, the pointer now never gets to the edges of the s...

Re: Just got a Z61M with titanium lid-best upgrades?

Well, instead of questions, here are some solutions that seem to work. Ditched the V5200 mobo and put back in the GMA 950. Ditched the modem, trackpad and FP reader (used the palmrest from a Z61e, it doesn't have a trackpad or FP reader). Used the T7200, the Atheros N wifi, the WSXGA+ screen, the SS...

Re: Just got a Z61M with titanium lid-best upgrades?

Hi all, Well, I got all the assorted bits together and working. Fast CPU, nice screen, bluetooth, wifi N all work fine. It's nice EXCEPT the terrible FireGL V5200 performance. Severe stuttering on youtube and VLC. I've scoured the internet (and this forum) for Win 7 ( or even Vista) drivers that may...

Re: Just got a Z61M with titanium lid-best upgrades?

Hi all, Well, I lucked out and got a FireGL board (44C3882) that crosses to (41W1294) which in the manual shows as a FireGL 5200 non-OA2 type. There are four more on the Bay listed as new for $7.95 plus $8.00 shipping, if anyone's interested (Search the 44C3882 number). So, it looks like I'll have t...

Re: Just got a Z61M with titanium lid-best upgrades?

Hi all, How is the heat and power comparison between the X1400 and the FireGL? I understand that the X1300 and X1400 are virtually the same, the only difference being the clock speed. Both have 4/2 cores, the X1300 is clocked at 350 Mhz and the X1400 at 445 Mhz. I think the FireGL 5200 is really a X...

Re: Just got a Z61M with titanium lid-best upgrades?

Thanks! I've got the manual printed out an am making notes as I go along. The wifi I'm thinking of using is an IBM Atheros AR5BXB72 ar5008 42t0825, which I understand is on the whitelist. I thought seriously of the WUXGA screen, but my old eyes would have a hard time with it. A compromise is the WSX...

Just got a Z61M with titanium lid-best upgrades?

Hi all, I just scored a Z61M titanium lid ThinkPad that is in excellent condition. The plastics are nice, and the lid is the nicest one I've seen (no discoloration or scratches). I've always admired these machines and finally I have a nice one. Unfortunately, it seems to be the "economy" model with ...

Looking for X6x Tablet Multitouch- LCD assy or barebone

Hi all, I've standardized my household on X6x tablets (currently running 3 of them, 2- X60, 1- X61). For my "personal driver" I'd really like a multitouch screen (both finger and stylus). Does anyone have either an LCD assembly or a barebone system with multitouch they'd care to part with? I'd prefe...

I'd like to try putting some other Os'es on it (I have a copy of OS/2 Warp 4 I'm curious about), but I need a PCMCIA CD-ROM dr...

I tried the first suggestion, it resulted in a very attractive dark blue non-aero scheme on my X41 tablet.
It looks like unlocking the "msstyles" file allows further modification.
