Thanks but, you guys are missing my point. This laptop always runs cool but something strange happened when leaving it alone and closed ONCE. When I turn it on now it is fine. This over heating was the entire laptop, everything was HOT.

Overheated T60
Good afternoon folks, I have a dedicated T60 that I leave connected to my printer that I usually don't shut off. A few weeks ago I opened the lid and the entire laptop was very hot, the entire keyboard, back side, everywhere except LCD. I unplugged it and left and restarted without battery later and...

T60 runs hotter when charging
Hi there, I've noticed the T60 running hotter sometimes even shutting down if I forget to put the fan on speed 7 and been meaning to open and redo thermal compound and clean fan. Yesterday I unplugged the charger and notice the cpu drop about 15 degrees. It does not seem to overheat when not chargin...

Update: I opened the unit up and removed and cleaned the fan and cleaned the chip and applied new thermal paste and all seems good now ie. no more random shut downs

T60 was running hot
T60 starting randomly shutting down so I installed a cpu temp app and saw cpu temps of about 80 deg C. Then installed tpfan control and temps have dropped to about 65 deg C, thinking maybe a clogged up fan or need new thermal paste on cpu interface, any thoughts?

Automobus suggested by PM checking the bios and ec on each machine, well they are different, the 14" is at bios 3.21 and ec 3.04, the 15" is at bios 3.13 and ec 3.04, what do you think? get them up to date or atleast the 15" upto 3.21/3.04?

T42 14", T42 15" and a micro SSD
Folks, as you can see above I built a SSD for my T42 14" using a 1.8" microSATA, Shapeways caddie and a Chinese adapter board. I was happy with the performance when in cranked out about 90 Mbs read and write speeds. I moved the drive over to my 15" T42 and the speeds are horrible, like 30 mbs ie sam...

Folks, the new board arrived and it was slightly different, it was to Rev1 of the board, anyway I assembled the same way into the shapeways caddy, plugged the 1.8" microSATA SSD in and inserted in HDD0. While the machine booted I hit F12 and the drive was visible in the boot list. Cloned the 1.8" mi...

Re: T42, mSATA and adapter board, HDD not seen
Neil, everything first time around everything was gone after first attempt at clone, the 1.8" microSATA could no longer be seen, so game over, nothing else I could do. No way to see a 1.8" microSATA without an adapter as it won't mate with anything, ie not ide, not sata

Re: T42, mSata and adapter board, HDD not seen
dr-st, I think your are right, original drive back in HDD and all boots fine, no way to check 1.8" microSATA by itself, it does not fit in my SATA ultrabay drive.

Edit: board vendor says to update the bios, is there any merit in that?

I built up a 1.8" microSATA setup with a Shapeways caddy, Chinese adapter board and Kingston 1.8" microSATA drive. jdrou's post was correct. If you are looking for fault, I'd look in the mirror first and stop there. You did not read the "READ_ME.TXT" within the compressed file. That was what he told you. He never said that the link itself did not point to Middleton's BIOS. Now I've got 2 of you guys all over me...

... did you take the time to read the "READ_ME!!!.txt" (inclued in the .RAR you downloaded) before asking here on the forum? Johan, I did, and it doesn't say anything about the bios file.
