Re: Retrofit WQHD high res panel from X1C 2014 to 1st gen X1

I was able to check out a new 2nd gen X1C, and really didn't like the changes they made, especially the removal of the trackpoint buttons at the top of the touchpad. That was a deal breaker for me. Guess I'll be sticking to my 1st gen X1C for the time being. :| It seems that X1C Gen3 would meet you...

Re: X31 HDD limitation?

I have a 7K100 in our X31, and I had a 7K200 in another one before. The issue you are seeing is with the cloning process (which is somewhat tricky on the X31) rather than hard drive compatibility. If you don't care about the recovery partition, you can use it as is ... otherwise you'll need to re-cl...

Re: X200s or X200 or___?

Me, I've been using 12-inch notebooks since Toshiba introduced the Portege 7020CT (first small one with XGA!) in 1999. Since that one, I've had one Dell and four ThinkPads with 12-inch displays. While more display would always be nice, the weight of the bigger machines is just brutal (in my opinion)...

Re: EU and IE saga

USA has done ridiculous and counter-productive things like killing the Bell System, though. I'd rather have a monopoly that works than a semi-monopoly that doesn't. Alas, FTC and DOJ don't see it that way, and they have done (and tried to do) some crazy things in the past, certainly on par with the...

Re: X200s Poll - How do the 3 processors compare?

I have the SL9400 CPU. I originally wanted to get the SU9400, but at the time that I bought my X200s, the wait for an SU9400 was way too long, so I took the SL9400. With the 9-cell battery I basically get all-day computing: I can unplug between 8 and 9 AM, and the battery lasts until 5 or 6 PM -- I ...

I'm running a 4GB SanDisk SDHC in my card reader, and I noticed a sizeable increase in the loading speed of both Vista itself and programs once Vista has loaded. When loading a program with ReadyBoost active, it takes the same amount of time for the program window to first appear, but the amount of...

Re: RAM; Power/Heat Difference, 2x1gb to 1x2gb ??

It's not entirely a guess, but there is estimation involved. I did a quick lookup of what the watt usage of various modules and it seemed that many of the newer DDR2 modules use about 2w. So my guess is that by going from 2 modules to 1 that you will save anywhere between 1 and 2w because you will ...

Apparently not, since they complained about the Windows browser ballot screen, which allows the user to freely choose which browser they want to use on their Windows system. http:/...

Re: Thinkpad X30 vs. Asus EeePC 900

To clarify, I am specifically looking for any data on the performance of the removable 4GB SSD in the EeePC. I'm thinking that will be the main factor affecting performance (as compared to the X30). If its too slow for XP, then I would like to get a replacement ordered. If it's too slow ... doing w...

Only because of the whining. Then Opera whined that shipping Windows 7 without IE was no good. Chrome's good enough to win the role of my backup/lightweight browser on Windows (from K-Meleon, after some vacancy), but apart from some niche uses (Google Maps and anything with flash video, mostly), it is quite far behind Opera in terms of what I like in a browser. Chrome has been good for me, b...

Re: Lenovo quality, the facts are against it?

Yes, it is still true. Some people still complain that their new $700.00 Thinkpad is not as good as their older $1500.00 Thinkpad. Even though the price has come down they expect the quality to be the same or better. Not just that -- they are also unhappy that Lenovo (like other companies) has gone...

Re: 500 GB @ 7200 rpm for T61p

Being 7200rpm is visibly much better than 5400rpm? Visibly better? It depends on your eyesight! I went from a 7200 rpm 200GB drive to a 5400 rpm 500GB drive. The throughput is slightly slower, but not slow enough for me to really be able to tell under normal use, without a stopwatch. And the 500GB ...

Re: Why are all the new models with lo-res screens these days?

Three months on, I'm very happy with the 12.1" 1440x900 display in my X200s. I still find that the wide-screen aspect ratio is not used as effectively by many applications (web browsing, word processing etc) but the screen is very bright and very crisp. With the 120 dpi display settings (rather than...

Re: Intel SSD prices slashed with new fabrication techology

Newer ThinkPads use the 1.5 Gb/s speed as well, as I recall. But the difference between a typical hard disk and a consistent 1.5 Gb/s speed is huge: if you can find an SSD that provides consistent performance even when near-full (Intels are pretty good for this), with sufficient capacity and an affo...

I have a gig of ram on the way. Now all I need is a hard drive of some sort. I'm really thinking ssd or CF-ide. Storage space isn't an issue for me. Long battery life, low heat, low noise, and speed are. A BDC is a must as I plan to tether with my cellphone. Make sure you research the SSD carefully...

Indeed, if you want Aero, you need a newer laptop. Windows 7 can still be an improvement on one of your ThinkPads, but unfortunately you wouldn't be able to take advantage of quite all of it.

Given that X31 and X41 users appear to be happily running Windows 7 RC (though without the eye candy) I suspect your ThinkPads would work equally as well, too.
