I have the Preferred Pro II and it's a very nice keyboard.
I have no experience of the previous version, however, and so cannot comment on whether it is better or worse.

Re: Lenovo started to make their own SSDs
My X1 Carbon gen 5 purchased in September 2017 came with this SSD (my intention was to upgrade it with a Samsung 960 Pro which I haven't done as yet as I like to sweat my assets)

And dont tell me 16/9 is better to fit 2 document next to each other. I could do exactly the same on 16/10, but with more vertical space on both document! I don't disagree with that statement. Luckily, I use two 16:10 24" FHD monitors, although I will probably replace them with a single 32" 4K scre...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)
As soon as details started to appear about the T25 I decided that it wasn't for me... I had been waiting to see what it was like before biting the bullet and going over to the dark side (so to speak) and buying an X1 Carbon 5th Generation which apart from the sub-optimal keyboard layout better suits...

Pure conjecture, but surely a the motherboard designed to fit into a shallower 16:9 chassis would easily be accommodated in a chassis designed for taller 16:10, 4:3 or screens?

FYI, I've never had any problems running two monitors connected to my X220 via the Series 3 docking station (one via DisplayPort, the other via DVI) on Windows 10 (currently clean install, but previously updated over Win 7) using the Microsoft provided drivers (9.17.10.4229 installed).

I believe it is the same card (i.e. would only be able to confirm 100% if I looked inside the laptop, however I can confirm that I ordered the 7260HMW card).
I'm using the 1.39 BIOS (whitelisted).

Same here - works fine (have posted about it in the past).
Bluetooth that comes with the card is more problematic (but appears to be a fairly common issue across the board).

All necessary drivers beside card reader are implemented in W10 installation files and Windows Update repository so you do not have to worry about that. For the card reader you can use W7 drivers available at Lenovos support pages. I do have W10 installed on my x220 for few months already and I hav...

Clean install of Windows 10, whereas the 830 configuration was an upgrade. 850 Pro supports Samsung's RAPID mode and potentially has more space over provisioned compared to the 830. Re: Futureproofing X220
My 8GB i7 X220 is going strong. I've upgraded the wireless to AC, but not sure if that was worth the hassle and have recently swapped a Samsung 256GB 830 SSD (which I also fitted) for an 850 Pro. That was definitely worth the upgrade and has subjectively, at least, improved the performance no end. W...

Re: Question about routers...
Asus routers, such as the RT-AC68U, support six guest networks (!), three on the 2.4GHz band, and three on 5GHz, supporting WPA2 encryption (or none) and with either no limit or a time limit on access. Guest networks can also have access to the local network resources and can support MAC filtering.

Re: T420 docking stations
USB 3.0 is only available if the laptop itself supports it (limiting its use to Ivy-bridge equipped ThinkPads, e.g. T430). My understanding is that the USB 3.0 port on the dock will behave as USB 2.0 on such laptops. You should be able to drive two monitors from the dock (e.g. DisplayPort and DVI si...

Re: Replacing my X201 with a new X250...few questions
I've needed warranty service on both my X200s and X220. X200s: a friend spilled wine over it resulting in a dead keyboard (but could have been worse), and then a second time when I dropped it and cracked the screen. X220: turned it on after docking it one day and the USB 3.0 failed, resulting in a n...

Re: Disappointed in Retro ThinkPad Survey 3
I agree about powerful, thin and light. What's your definition of powerful? If you go the quad core route you cannot really go thin and light at the same time if you want to cool the quad core down properly. You just cannot cheat physics in that way. The only other option is a 15W U-CPU still okay ...

Re: Disappointed in Retro ThinkPad Survey 3
I agree about powerful, thin and light. I have just purchased a T430 for a friend on eBay (i5 with Intel SSD, absolutely mint condition, warranty until October 2016). However it's just too big. Give me an X-series any day (such as my i7 X220) - small enough to use on a train, in a cafe, or on your l...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)
I mildly prefer the latches just because they ensure the lid stays closed no matter what (and the feeling of de-latching the lid). I could live with magnet latches though. I agree on the logo, the 'Pad' should have been in RGB. I prefer the magnetic catch on my X220 to the latch on my X200s, partly...

I have upgraded my X220 (and indeed my X200s) from Windows 7 to Windows 10, and have experienced no problems. No problems experienced upgrading my X220 to Windows 10 (non-UEFI).
As and when I do a clean install, I will probably play around with UEFI, but at the moment everything works fine.

In the following post ansible212 posted some results showing that the USB3 port on the Series 3 Docks with USB3 functions as USB3 when used with a Thinkpad X220 i7 model: T520 & USB 3.0 This came as a surprise to many, myself included, as the USB3 controller on the X220 is a separate chip, and it w...

I just knew there had to be a catch, and thank you for pointing it out... hadn't got as far as checking the form factor etc
The MC7710 uses three antennae, so I assume that is another challenge to overcome (of course I could just upgrade and stay with 3G, which is usually plenty fast enough).

Adding 4G to X220 (or similar) in Europe
Posting here as I expect the question applies to other models with 3G. I've been on contract with Vodafone since I purchased by X200s, initially because Access Connections was locked to Vodafone and subsequently as it continued to represent good value for money. With the reduction in price of 4G in ...
