Re: Why 2.5" SSD 4GB option for T420?
I had a 2GB card that plugged into the WWAN socket of a T-61 that was a sort of cache accelerator. Since you can plug a SSD in the WWAN socket of the 420 (I'm using an 80 in there now) maybe it was intended as a fast cache instead of a full drive.

Re: T400 - dead, brief LED flicker, black screen, any ideas?
I had a T410 system do the same thing to me. It was the power jack. Some of the wires had broken so it wasn't supplying power to the Planar. Also, sometimes it would arc. I'd recommend taking off the keyboard, palmrest, and the bezel and take a look inside. I had another dead one that had been in wa...

Re: T410 wireless not working
A USB or PC Card Wireless should work OK. I've used both on T410s. Don't use both at once -- they drive each other crazy.
You mentioned that you have a GOBI card. Are you trying to use a cell network for WiFi? The Gobi needs special drivers.

Hard Disk Repair Utilities (when all else fails)
I tried searching back a couple of years but didn't find anything. Are there any favorite (free or paid) utilities that will restore a hard drive that fails to initialize, or which refuses to boot even after doing FIXBOOT, FIXMBR, CHKDSK, and even a Factory Restore? Most of the disks involved seem t...
Re: Recovery
When I entered the COA from my dead T410 it said the COA was from preinstalled software and I need to contact the supplier for more details.

Re: T400 LCD Replacement
Well, I managed to score another T400 with a working display that includes a camera. The whole setup now seems to work fine although I'm 1280 x 800. The machine cost less than a used screen. And now I have another whole machine to see what I can combine to make a working system. Problem with the "do...

Re: T400 LCD Replacement
Well, I got part of my answer. I pulled the old screen out and discovered it's the LED lit so the T61 panel is out. I have a dead T400 with a 1280x800 screen and I'll pull the top half apart to see if it's also LED, but I'm not hopeful. It's 7663-CTO (W15). Repacement panels run $60 (glossy) or $85 ...

T400 LCD Replacement
I tried a search and didn't find the answer so I ask the cognoscenti: I have a T400 that had a broken LCD (2768-EK9). I put on another lid and the thing is working OK (except that the new lid is 1280 x 800 and the original was 1440 x 900). The lid with the broken LCD has a camera, which I'd really l...

Re: X60 chassis for X61?
Still trying to fix my X61... I scored another X61 (7674-vxv). It was supposed to be dead, but appears to be working. It has a faster processor of a newer vintage (T8100) and an 802.11n WiFi. I want to import my WWAN from the old box, but the new Planar doesn't seem to have the connection for the su...

The lid plastic broke from the fall as well. I guess I can swap the WWAN antennas; they are in the same place.
Thanks RBS.

X60 chassis for X61?
My X61 got dropped and I broke all the plastics in one corner. I have an X60 that I don't use much. The plastics appear to be identical. I can probably move my X61 Planar into the X60 body. The question is the WLAN card. I have a Verizon enabled Sierra 5275 card in the X61. The antenna on the X60 is...

Fn-F5 isn't turning the Bluetooth on or off. Even after the Ubuntu trick.
I used to know where to set that, but I couldn't find it in the Bluetooth driver or in BIOS.

Re: T61 Bluetooth
I started up Ubuntu 11.10 and the Bluetooth light lit. So it's there.
Then I started up Windows 7 and the Bluetooth light lit. And the software tried to load the drivers I had installed.
Everything went in except for something called RFCOMM Protocol TDI.
Where do I find this?

I did a search and couldn't find the answer to my question. I have a T61 8892-02U that I am trying to build up. When I loaded Windows 7 on it, no Bluetooth drivers were loaded. When I press Fn-F5 the Bluetooth light does not come on. I tried loading the Bluetooth driver and the software said that th...

Re: System Migration Assistant
I had mega problems trying to do almost the same thing (T43 to T61). I finally got it to connect when I disabled Windows Firewall on both machines. And it was tough finding where it was in Windows 7. I also did best by starting on the Target machine, then bringing on the source machine. I somehow th...

Hah! Found a driver under Video instead of Display. I'll post results.

Looks like that driver filled the bill. False alarm.

NVidia 140 Driver for Windows 7
Did a search here and on the Windows 7 board and came up empty. Also came up empty on the Lenovo site and the NVidia site. I have a T61 (8892-02U) that I just installed Windows 7 (32 bit) on. I used System Update to download everything Lenovo says I need. The graphics controller seems to think it's ...

Re: Windows 7 for Thinkpad T60.
I have one Win 7 Upgrade that I got for cheap when I was taking accounting courses a couple of years back. I put it on the R60 just to see what would happen. Re: Windows 7 for Thinkpad T60.
No need to be brave, I got X61T and X61, both run Win 7 64 just great with 4 GB of RAM. The SSD did not hurt it either. The problem is the X61 is my daily worker and I can't afford to shut it down while I sort through the driver issues that invariably crop up. At some point I will probably get a sp...

Re: Windows 7 for Thinkpad T60.
I put Win 7 Pro on my R60 (9457 series) with a T2400 CPU and 2 GB RAM and it ran OK. I don't run that box much now that I have some T60s and an X61. When I get brave I'll probably see how the X61 runs Win 7.
Incidentally, I was able to find all the necessary drivers on the Lenovo site.

Re: X60 and SD Module
Well, I sorta managed to solve my problem. The SD slot on the X60 still doesn't work. But I got an X61 with almost the same specs (including the WWAN) and the SD slot works fine. Did a hard drive swap and updated a couple of drivers and all is hunky dory (until the noisy fan finally decides to give ...

Re: T60 Boot Failure
Well, my upgrade failed.
The T7200 CPU works fine in the 2007. It already has 3 Gig of RAM, so I didn't need the RAM modules.
But the WWAN socket is missing.
So if I want WWAN I need to find a board with a WWAN socket or fix the one I have.

Thanks for the warning. Looks like the 2007-C3U is at 2.26, so I'm set there.
I just hope the display with the WWAN antenna works. That could be almost a deal breaker.

I just got a T60 (2623-KFU) that has a T7200 CPU, SXGA+, 2 GB RAM, 3945 WiFi and 5720 WWAN (among other things, no hard drive and no battery). When I plug it into the AC brick the "plug" light goes on. When I press Start the whole thing goes blank. I tried removing the CMOS battery, no regular batte...

Re: X60 and SD Module
I managed to stick the shaft of a Q-Tip into the slot and found that it came out with a gray stain. Wetted the Q-Tip shaft with some alcohol and tried to slosh it around a bit. The shaft still came out gray. I found a thin emery board and went in with the fine side to the contacts. While looking in,...

In case you don't want to believe ajkula66, I tried putting an SXGA+ display on an Intel graphics T42 and got no image on boot. You can put any display/cable on the ATI graphics (although the performance of the 7500 with hi-res displays is pretty weak). I have replaced SXGA+ panels with XGA by simpl...
