No surprises. As it happens, the recovery options are pretty clearly spelt out from the word go. The Rescue and Recovery utility detected that my hard disk had multiple partitions and offered to either restore the factory contents to C: only or delete all partitions and restore to a single partition...

This is good information you posted. Thanks. I wonder why IBM chose to hide that information there. It's not in any of the help files available from within Windows. I also saw options to rescue files from the windows partition and move them to other partitions. All very good. Now I need to see how ...

(2) If you can't boot into Windows, you can use IBM Rescue & Recovery to restore your system (C: drive). You press the blue Access IBM button on startup, or boot from a Rescue Media CD (not to be confused with the Recovery Discs). Then you use any backup CD's you created with Rapid Restore Ultra 4....

Thanks but I want to recover from the hidden partition which I left untouched by my partitioning. There appears to be a difference between the two restore methods. Same help file seems to say that only C:\ gets wiped out. I want to be absolutely certain: The Restore factory contents method deletes a...

Could someone who has actually tried it confirm what Ed says here i.e Will restore to factory settings from the recovery partition affect only C:\ and leave other partitions intact? I want to be sure that I don't lose data on the other partitions I created.

thanks

GomJabbar,

Thanks. That was one of the first things I tried. The main problem that's driving me crazy is that the menu/dialog box/title fonts in applications have become very small and are of a different type to the defaults.

No. TweakUI is a useful app but it can't fix these problems.

XP Repair Installation from Recovery CD?

I have a problem of corrupt fonts and themes on my T42p WinXPSP2 box. I have tried reinstalling the fonts and the themes as well as XP's System Restore but neither has worked. I understand that a repair install of XP should fix the problem. Is there a way to do a repair install using the recovery CD...

I finally got round to repartitioning the disk today using the freeware partition magic clone qtparted. I highly recommmend qtparted by the way.
Access to the service partition was completely unaffected. I did not need the repair utility afterall.

Ah! Thanks for the link to the utility. I don't have a floppy drive so I'll need a bootable USB key. I've made one before so it shouldn't be a problem.

Am I the only one who wonders why IBM still expects us to use floppy drives when they ship out systems without them?

Repartitioning and the service partition

I've a new T42p. I want to shrink the system partition and create an extended partition with two logical drives, one for VMWare disks and the other for data. Since I also intend to retain the hidden Service partition, I want to be sure that repartitioning will not prevent access to it via the Access...
