Re: Thinkpad 25 - Early failure symptoms? (probably similar to T470)
If you are a regular T25 user, you should buy a spare mobo now and be prepared... By the time it really happens, they may no longer be available! There's also always the T480-T25 FrankenPad: https://www.xyte.ch/mods/t25-frankenpad/#t480-t25-frankenpad That site hasn't been updated since 2022 and th...

Why not make a full backup and then apply the full Legacy Update setup? It worked here. I had to restart a few times before all the updates got installed.

At the moment, I can't bear to get rid of either one. One more question for the experts: is there a limit to the size of the hard disk in the 770z?

And I also used to install DVDExpress, which was one of the only DVD Players that ran under XP that was compatible with the DEVA card. Some old versions of the classic Media Player from Windows itself were also compatible, but I don't think I ever figured out exactly which versions those were, or h...

I got a cheap new-in-box replacement bezel on eBay, and, thanks to RBS's advice and encouragement, amazed myself by replacing it successfully. Thanks again to RBS!

By the way, on one XP system, LegacyUpdate.net stopped working until I installed IE 8 over IE 6, and then all was well again.

Any reason to keep both a 770z and T23?
It's time to thin out the ThinkPad shelf again, and I think the 770z is the one that should go, as I also have a T23, and both have the same multiple OSes installed - DOS, Win95 through XP. If I remember correctly, the only reason to keep the 770z might be that it has sound in DOS, while the T23 doe...

LegacyUpdate.net
Am I the last person to discover LegacyUpdate.net? I've now used it to update Windows XP on my ThinkPad 770z (dozens of updates available) and am now using it to update Windows 2000 on the same machine. I had an occasional hiccup when trying to set it up using a wireless connection, but it works per...

There was nothing specific to XP in the drivers link, but I found a DRIVERS\WIN\MODEM\DISK1 folder in my W95 partition, and tried that - and it worked. I'll try to figure out where it came from.

Re: Replacing T23 keyboard bezel?
Thank you for that. Unfortunately my breakage is at the front left corner, where the bezel meets the base. It doesn't affect function, but looks ugly enough for me to want to replace it.
Will follow your advice on this and save myself further trouble, I hope. Thank you again.

Replacing T23 keyboard bezel?
My treasured T23 has developed a crack in the keyboard bezel, and I've ordered a replacement from Impact Computers. The HMM's guide to replacing it makes the process look fairly straightforward, except for removing and replacing the hinge cover. Does anyone have experience with this - and any hints ...

Re: The official 770 Upgrade and general information Topic
Another question about Windows XP on the 770z: I don't plan to use the internal modem, but I'm annoyed by "unknown device" that it shows as in the device manager. I can't find any driver for it, and the configuration utility doesn't turn it on. Is there any way to make it show up as installed?

Re: The official 770 Upgrade and general information Topic
One more question: what's the best way to connect to the Internet with a 770Z? I found an old 3Com PCMCIA ethernet card, and it works, but I wonder if anyone has a suggestion for a model that might be reasonably fast? I presume you're using a 10/100 ethernet card to a LAN with a decent internet con...

I started to do this, and then realized that I didn't have any replacement stick-on caps to replace the four that I would have to remove above the keyboard. This thread inspired me to pull out my 770Z in very fine condition, complete with a 30GB SSD installed with Windows NT4, 2000, 95, 98SE, and XP. I can't remember why I did all this, but it's all there. I didn't realize it was crucial to remove the hibernation battery (which the HMM calls the standby...

You can clearly see the damage in this picture:
https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/mt0AAOSw ... -l1600.jpg
The crack in the bezel is on the left edge, and there is more damage on the left side of the palmrest. It looks like a crack in addition to the residue, but I can't be sure.

Re: What are the best X1 Carbon (generation) Thinkpads?
USB-C charagers are inherently interchangeable, so any USB-C charger should work if it produces enough power. I use an Apple charger sometimes; sometimes a third-party charger; sometimes the one that came with the machine. I think something 68W is the likely minimum for power. Lower-powered chargers...
