Doesn't matter if it's out of warranty. Their records will indicate that they gave you the wrong part number, and it's certainly within your right to have it rectified.

What do you consider important - price, battery life, silence, reliability, speed? I am pretty sure the one you'd prefer would be different, depending on which of these are most important to you.

The 4-cell battery life on the X61 is an abomination. I'd stay well clear of it, unless you have a way of using it plugged in.

10C temp drop at medium load probably means 20C at extreme load like a CPU stress test.

I can confirm that X61 tablets have both copper and aluminum. I think the tablets and the X6x's' share the same sinks, don't they?

Re: Swapping X60s cooling module

Funny thing, I've been getting some X61 tablets serviced with some fans being replaced by Lenovo. They came back with the aluminum sinks and are now topping out around 70C under a heavy CPU stress test. Going by my experience I would say that whatever the new aluminum ones are - they are better than...

Yeah, but it doesn't have the IPS screen :D

I would say the X60/X61 non-tablet are some of the toughest machines ever.

Hinges do tend to become loose on these machines. Not as bad as the latches, though.

Re: x60t and ultrabase on external monitor

It's an analog output. It's definitely possible to have a crappier output signal from one over the other. Look at all the pins, and make sure they are clean and straight, etc.

Re: X61T, Hinge Power Off

I agree with Ivan, it's most likely a shorting or partly broken LCD cable. The fact that it shuts down makes a short likely. Some protection kicking in to prevent damage. I've had one X60 tablet with a bad LCD cable. Basically when you tilt the screen the cable would have weird lines and colors run...

Instead of adding second mini-PCIe card I'd sell the laptop and buy X61(s)-series or newer model.
And you think X61s can play 1080p video without a problem?

The only thing you could encounter is if you have a machine which can pull more than 65W with a 65W power adapter. Very unlikely scenario, and the worst thing that can happen is a crash with no damage.

Re: X60s and problem playing 1080p

I don't know how they compare, but my t61 with a T7100 (1.8ghz), 4gb ram and windows vista will run youtube at 1080p without issues (based on what its telling me - it looks no diffrent than 720p) - One thing I have noticed is that (in vista at least) the X3100 has decent acceleration, I can watch 7...
