Re: x201t and RS232 serial
Thanks for the quick replies! Portability and tablet form factor are very important. A 14" laptop like the T430 is too awkward to use inside a tiny Miata - no space between you and the dash to comfortably view the screen and use the keyboard. The first approach will be trying an ExpressCard adapter....

x201t and RS232 serial
Hi there, I'm not entirely sure this fits in the Xxxx Series forum, but I am trying to setup a X201t (W7 64-bit) as a dedicated computer for tuning the ECU in my car (Hydra Nemesis 2.5 ECU) and having issues getting a good RS232 connection. I am using a USB-to-Serial adapter that has been proven to ...

Re: Help using LCD & External Screens to display dup. desktop
Hi PaulaG, I haven't tried the Duplicate Screen mode on my W530, but I thought I would try it out and let you know how it went. I dug out a VGA cable and attempted Duplicate Screen on an external display and could not do it. The W530 monitor would immediately jump to what looks like 800x600 and the ...

Re: W530 waking from sleep on it's own...
Thank you for the suggestion, Tinue. I waited week as the problem became intermittent, but finally uninstalled the "Magician" software and the wake problems disappeared completely. It has been about 3 weeks with no waking on it's own - I think my problem is solved.
Thanks!
Thanks!

W530 waking from sleep on it's own...
Hello there, I recently purchased a W530 to replace my excellent but now retired W500. One problem I had with my W500, and now with my W530, is that the computer would wake up on it's own. I can't remember what I did to fix the issue in the past and I know I fixed it from searching forums before, bu...

Re: [Success] Adding A Camera (WebCam) To TP T410
This is a great thread! I just bought a used T410 and didn't realize there was no webcam. A quick search brought me to this thread where I found that adding one was simply buying the module and lens cover and installing. I ordered a webcam and cover and installed it successfully today. Looks like a ...

Re: Help with computer decision for engineering programs...
Well, I got my W500 today. It is a W500 4058-CTR. From a few searches I have found that people have problems with this model? (more than others) Now I have some questions: #1: I found that my 320 GB HDD is 5400rpm, and I am considering buying the factory 7200rpm version, or buying a Seagate Momentus...

Re: Flushmount PCMCIA USB Card?
Haha, I probably won't find one of those... Sorry. There is a big difference in a PC card and an Expresscard.
Thank you!
Looks like I will pick up an inside hide PC Card and a usb 3.0 expresscard adapter for my W500. I think they will fit at the same time...?

Re: Help with computer decision for engineering programs...
Thank you! Also, how far does the 9 cell battery stick out of the back? I'm trying to see if it will fit in my current laptop bag and backpack... I won't be able see for myself until Monday afternoon, which is after the 10% promotion ends. I'm not sure if I should buy a 6 cell or 9 cell as far as th...

Re: Help with computer decision for engineering programs...
Awesome!
Now are they going to provide a new license key?
If I get the W7 64-bit OS recovery DVD's, I don't think the Vista Business key will work. And I don't think my retail license key will work either.
Thank you.

Re: Help with computer decision for engineering programs...
Thanks for the battery link. :D How do I order OS recovery discs? Would I be able to get Windows 7 Pro 64-bit recovery discs for a W500 even though mine is Vista Business 32-bit? I have a retail version of Windows 7 Pro 64 and 32 bit OS, but I have read that a clean install of the retail version has...

Re: Help with computer decision for engineering programs...
Thank you guys for your help. I ended up ordering a W500. This is the one I bought: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170460261161&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT It should be showing up here in the next couple of days. :) RWDPLZ, thanks for the tip. Re: Help with computer decision for engineering programs...
Alright, I have two very different quesitons: 1. What are some other mobile workstations I should consider? I ruled out Dell and HP at the beginning, but lets un-rule them out for this question. What is comparable and around the same price point as a W500? Maybe an Elitebook? I'm not completely sold...

Re: Help with computer decision for engineering programs...
If I were to purchase a W500 without a Windows 7 OS, I would like to install a copy of it (which would be retail), but I have read that some things like the power manager don't work correctly after doing so? Also, I should have no problems with having warrantee coverage if buying off of eBay? Is the...

Re: Help with computer decision for engineering programs...
Hey, great suggestion! Now that brings me to another question... If I were to buy a W500 without all the features I want, how difficult/realistic/smart is it that I could upgrade it down the road? I'm thinking I will focus on the processor and screen, and things like RAM, HDD, 32 -> 64 bit OS, and s...

Re: Help with computer decision for engineering programs...
You can say I have set myself up for failure, and it seems I am now looking to do it again…. 3 years ago I purchased a Dell Inspiron 6400 with all the options. I decided against buying a Dell Precision notebook to save money, although I spent the same amount on the 6400 with all the options as the b...

Help with computer decision for engineering programs...
I am an engineering student and currently working in the field. I currently have a computer that just isn’t working for what I need to do (let alone everything else), which is working in SolidWorks and Mastercam. A friend of mine recently purchased a well equipped W500 for ~$1200 when they were on s...
