Re: W10: FIX for Lenovo Power Manager

See here: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=73&t=120422#p781543 The old Windows 7 power manager works fine on Windows 10, even for setting charge thresholds. You just have to rename/copy one extracted setup file, and also periodically re-install as every annual/major update to Windows 10 re...

Re: Installing classic keyboard into X230 with EC firmware mod

The problem for whitelist removal is the rather effective lockdown in place to prevent in-system flashing of unauthorised BIOS images: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=120776&start=60#p780656 If you are willing to use a hardware programming tool then the procedure to remove the whitel...

(edit: just saw this post. shawross' post above is tackles the 1511 compatibility check directly, but changing the name of setup.exe works too and might be faster for some) Just to document what I've found out: On the original Version 1507, Build 10240 version of Windows 10, it was possible to insta...

Re: Installing classic keyboard into X230 with EC firmware mod

Now we can finally start recommending xx30 thinkpads with this bios + classic keyboard mod instead of xx20 models! The xx20 series still has the substantial advantage of being upgradable with new wlan/wwan cards imo. The WLAN whitelist can be removed too, but you have to write to the flash chip wit...

Re: X220, X230 or X240

Don't let the X230's locked BIOS rule it out entirely - depending on how familiar you are with electronics and programming. See this method: https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-REQUEST-Lenovo-Thinkpad-X230-Whitelist-removal?pid=91134#pid91134 You can then use an Intel 7260 AC or Azurewave AW-CE12...

Re: WTB: X220/230 w/IPS

If you're comfortable stripping down a Thinkpad, then you might have better luck getting a TN model and adding the IPS panel afterwards. They seem to be €50 to €120 on eBay, but be careful that it's not simply "compatible" model for sale - you'll order an "IPS" and simply receive another TN. The LG ...

Re: X220 IPS Image Retention Problem - Replace LCD?

The X230 HMM includes the steps for changing the panel alone. There are also a few videos of it being done on YouTube. You use the same cable whether TN or IPS. The connector is about 1.5 inches wide and easy enough to release with a fingernail or screw driver once the securing tape is peeled back. ...

Re: X220 IPS Image Retention Problem - Replace LCD?

Coincidence - I was about to post a message about this. I got a new X230 recently. I couldn't find an unused model with IPS, so bought a TN one and a fresh 04W3462 (genuine boxed Lenovo part, supposedly free of persistence issues) to put into it. Swapping panels was a cinch: 2 screws on the bezel, 4...

Re: mSATA on the X201: its possible

Most Intel chipsets have extra SATA ports that are unused. e.g. the ICH8M used in the X61 actually has 3x SATA ports and 1x IDE controller. If you're very lucky, the pins for these unused ports will have been tracked out on the PCB, opening the door for a workable hardware mod without any drawbacks....

Re: Replace 4965AGN Wireless Card to reduce heat? X61

Just got a 6200N based on this recommendation.

The WiFi LED on the bezel didn't flash in response to data transfer, which I missed. Luckily, it's a parameter of the Intel driver on Windows, just as it is on Linux: http://blog.boris-wach.de/permalink/119

Nice upgrade from the hot 4965AG!

* The hotkeys software seems to hang from time to time, especially after resuming from sleep. Several times I have been unable to change the screen brightness using Fn-Home/End keys after resume. I've had to reboot to solve the problem. Seems strange that Lenovo would still be issuing buggy softwar...

Re: X61: Immediate Shutdown on startup

It sounds like your original problem was that the power button was either physically stuck-down or electrically always-on. That would explain how the machine started by itself once power was applied and then shutdown soon after. The soft power switch on a PC simply sends a message to the BIOS/OS if ...

Re: A tight fitting protective sleeve for x60s

I got one of these 6 months ago from the same seller: eBay item 170473408359. It's tailor made for the X60/X61: a perfect fit without being too tight. You can use it with a 4 or 8 cell battery as the flap is on the long side. They also have item 180537204568 with flap on the short side, but I though...

Re: Interference on Monitor w/ X60s and x6 UltraBase

I've an X61 connected to a Dell 2209WA 1680x1050. It gives a pixel-perfect picture on both the dock and laptop output. The clock/pixel phase changes by 10% - 20% as the combination warms up: high contrast adjacent pixels are slightly muddy for maybe the first few minutes after turning things on. I'v...

I re-celled my T23 with new 2.4Ah Samsung cells about 3 years ago. This gave a 4.8Ah pack, versus the standard IBM 3.6Ah. It took maybe 10 cycles to recalibrate the meter and it's been running great ever since. 133% factory capacity reported by the battery gauge! I re-celled my 20% capacity X61 4 ce...

Battery ReCell: At least on the A31 series, the battery controller will relearn the new cells, it still "thinks" the old date and the number of charges, but it does "control" fine and otherwise give good and accurate info after about 6 charge/discharge cycles with the new cells. I have several floa...

Re: Can't control the brightness after returning from sleep mode

I was having this problem on my X61 in Win7. In my case, I found that never setting the brightness to 0 avoids the bug.

It seemed to be random as to whether it would 'stick' or not, so I never found out if it was related to being on AC, DC or just sleeping with it at level 0.
