Re: Issue with Intel 6300 WiFi card in my T430
The 6300 family is known to have a nasty firmware bug that Intel hasn't fixed (card was desupported long ago) and there's no fixing it in the software driver either. The 63xx has always been a dog. Almost any other card, even older ones, are better choices as they'll actually work reliably and not c...

Re: Don't get ripped off on an SXGA+ screen for your X61/X62
I'm still getting to rebuilding the screens (I'm getting to the work here and there). Most will be in good shape once I finish, but I've had to carefully disassemble and evaluate each one. I'm getting there--- I need to finish my T70 QXGA rebuilds first. I'll get back in touch with people when scree...

Still re-rebuilding the Chinese screens, just so there are no surprises. Sorry about the lag, I don't have as much free time right now as I used to

Re: Don't get ripped off on an SXGA+ screen for your X61/X62
Mine happens specifically when I close the screen but don't turn it off. That seems to me like it's a temperature problem or something, since the screen would be heated up by the laptop body (maybe). In my case the edge turns completely white, regardless of what's being displayed and I can repeated...

Re: Don't get ripped off on an SXGA+ screen for your X61/X62
Thanks, but I do have lots of dark gray test images. *nod*, just giving you my specific worst-case test screen for the examples here. I can say that the retro-tv effect can get better by time. Takes several months. I always thought the effect was due to static electricity in the layers of the scree...

Re: Don't get ripped off on an SXGA+ screen for your X61/X62
I tweaked it the other direction and the problem disappeared. By how much did you turn it? Tried it on a screen without the retro-tv effect with no visible effect. I have two screens with darker left side edge and corners. But I cannot imagine how I could have managed to change the adjustment of VR...

Yeah, the good news is that despite the average quality dropping hard, there were still gems in the latest batch.
I'll jot that down and send you an email.

Re: Legit SXGA screens available for X62 builders
Hi Xiphmont. Are the digitizers on these SXGA screens pen-enabled or just touch? Would be interested in a couple of screens if pen-enabled as well. Thanks. Regards. Dave The digitizers are the usual pen-only, no finger touch. FTR, you can take the touch glass and digitizer backplane off an XGA tabl...

Learned something new last night
https://xiphmont.dreamwidth.org/92996.html tl;dr summary: many (most?) of the 12" HV121P01 SXGA screens with a 'bathtub ring' or 'retro-tv' effect around the edges are not defective, VR1 simply got knocked out of adjustment. THE WHOLE STORY: This is one of those occasions where I feel like a complet...

I think I have some good news with respect to SXGA screens; I bought a number on a few occasions from a specific AliExpress seller who appear to have legit stock. Details in another post here: viewtopic.php?f=80&t=126895

Legit SXGA screens available for X62 builders
Hi folks, I've been one of the folks complaining about low-quality rebuilt SXGA screens all over eBay and Alibaba, and promised I'd alert folks if I found a worthy alternative. I think I have good news--- I've bought a quantity of screens from https://www.aliexpress.com/item/HV121P01-100-for-IBM-X60...

Re: Don't get ripped off on an SXGA+ screen for your X61/X62
Tangentially related question, I have a pair of X60s-es with spotty screens so I'm scouting for replacements. It's not just a drop-in replacement for IPS screens, is it? (Even with just the XGA one.) In this somewhat old guide for putting an IPS in non-Tablets, it mentions a converter cable is requ...

Re: Don't get ripped off on an SXGA+ screen for your X61/X62
Interesting. My SXGA+ has the damaged polarizer pattern sometimes (when it gets hot / close the lid with the screen on), but I get a white ring around the edge with that exact shape. Is that the same or something else? I pulled this from a tablet with everything on it (clips, digitizer, front plate...

Re: X62: SATA interface unresponsive, rest of the machine works fine
I just pulled out the second of my 2nd batch (3rd batch? Not sure which) X62 mobos to install, and the primary SATA channel failed during an OS install (the channel connected to the 2.5" bay) after some amount of heatsink fettling. Previously, it appeared to work properly, now it does not see 90% of...

Oh dang, those are harder. You need a ~30V LED strip and I can't make those (well I can, but I have no PCBs to do so). Edit: Should be back now. Let me know if I missed anything.
