With Linux it is - you can assign mouse buttons to whatever. This will help. Not sure about the windows world, but I'd be more than surprised if it weren't possible. Many Thinkpads have duplicate mousing buttons on top of the touchpad. I am wondering if it's possible to assign special functionality to these buttons.
