Use different FRU board than original?

The system board on my 2379-DXU needs replacement. Is it possible to use a board with different GPU specs? For example, the original board is a 93P4158 with an ATI Radeon 9600 64MB; could I use a board that has an ATI GL-128 as a replacement? How could I figure out beforehand which FRUs would fit in...

It was easy to find this listing. She has 1 feedback--from a seller. I know people have to start somewhere, but maybe it'd be better if they started by building a good reputation as a buyer. 1 Positive feedback is a good start, but only a start. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=681...

* BS ALERT * BS ALERT * BS ALERT * BS ALERT * BS ALERT *

Be wary of Greenzap. It's an iffy MLM at best. An outright scam at worst. This so-called "webcash" that's promised is vapor--an alleged promisory note for future use ONLY with businesses that have agreed to accept it. Apparently, this "will" (notice the forward-looking statements) only be applied as...

I like Paypal

I know this is over, but I thought I'd add my two cents: I used one of these money-order services once (bidpay). Seller closed up shop and left several buyers in the lurch. Luckily I pursued the issue with my bank and after a little time and effort I got a full refund. Although in the end I didn't l...

You need a minimum of 3 identical-capacity drives to pull off RAID 5. That's the only reason I asked. I hadn't known before that any Thinkpad, past or present, was capable of holding 3 drives without a dock.

Bill,

Did you try to set up a software RAID 5 array? RAID 5 in a laptop--now that'd be cool.

Mike, that's relating to the 802.11--not the bluetooth. Besides he's asking about the drivers, not the management utilities. Al: I had a similar problem with the Bluetooth II/III stack on the T42. Here's an excerpt from instructions for installation of that stack--it may help you. After restarting t...

security cable anchor

 On my T42 it just looks like what others have stated: the base of the hinge. The base extends all the way to the edge on the left side--I assume so that it can act as an anchor for the security-cable notch.

Ghost 2005 rocks

I think use ghost is the best and simplest. Ghost _only_ runs under windows so you must use it from your running operating system. I see some fundamental problems with this: Are all files (and other disk objects) updated or is some stuff held in memory? Are there any locked files? How will the syst...

finally found the solution

Actually, this is what I was looking for:

You can't just run through the install, though; you have to follow their slightly convoluted instructions to override the Microsoft driver.

I don't know what I did before to get this working. Can someone enlighten me? Please include links to download the appropriate dr...

one column of keys not working on 701c keyboard

Well, don't ask how I only just discovered this. The 701c I just bought has a problem with the keyboard. The 2,w,s, and x keys do not work. I just ordered a set of micro-size torx drivers (T1-T8). Does anyone know what the chance is that this is simply a loose keyboard connector? Or will I have to r...

701C: CardBus with AMD 133 Upgrade board?

I read all the 701c messages and found one reference to CardBus slots being available on the AMD 133 upgrade system board (JHEM said this, to be exact). Can anyone confirm this and/or point me in the direction of specifications for these upgrade boards? Everyone mentions the speed upgrade and the 64...

What benefits does "partner" designation afford, Bill? Do they give you deeper wholesale discounts that you could potentially pass on to your customers? I was a bit confused also. On the left side towards the back I have USB slots, left side towards the front I have PC Card slots. On the right side towards the back I have I have the ultrabay and the VGA output. That's okay. I know lots of people get left and right mixed up sometimes.

I just realized that the "Max Performance" setting doesn't function the way I would expect it to. It doesn't override the custom dynamic switching "max multiplier" setting. So, if I need to run at full speed, I need to go in and change the "max multiplier" manually. Somewhat annoying, but if I don't...

MY CPU had been running at 63C (running nothing but Winamp and Einstein@Home/BOINC). I'm now averaging 42C. This is on a...

BSOD after updating BIOS and ATI drivers on T42-2379DXU

I recently ran the latest "Recommended" updates in the ThinkCenter Software Installer, including the one for the BIOS and ATI video drivers. When booting, I get an instantaneous BSOD referencing "ati2dvag.dll", which only stays up for a second and then reboots again. I can get no further unless I se...
