Re: X62 problems, quirks, and fixes

For people hunting PC7 in linux. There is an alternative driver for realtek ethernet card which is way less buggy then one from realtek https://github.com/KastB/r8169.

Yep, I've got pc7 as well now. The nice thing about having pc7 is that the laptop is absolutely silent now

Re: Making sense of power management

It should reach PC8 though, but it doesn't because of the SD card reader. The same Realtek card reader that lspci oddly reports as 01:00.0 Unassigned class [ff00]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTS5227 PCI Express Card Reader (rev 01) is found in the Thinkpad E460, and one commentator reports bei...

Re: X62 problems, quirks, and fixes

Anyone had problem with hard freezes? Got my X62 a few days ago and after a about an hour of operation it would just freeze (no network response, sound buffer repeating if sound was playing). It seemed to not happen in Linux, and downgrading the Intel GPU driver seemed to alleviate the issue on Win...

Here are some photos how it looks like http://pasteboard.co/6gQ2RBmsQ.jpg http://pasteboard.co/6gP8No4yF.jpg Was the original x62 fan just taped on? No, but you cannot simply replace the fan. How I did it looks not very elegant but works perfectly. This was x62s fan which could be different from x6...

Just want to mention that you can change edid without reflashing it using

Code: Select all

Option "CustomEDID" "eDP1:/etc/X11/edid.bin"
to ' Section "Device" ' in your xorg.conf file

Re: X62 problems, quirks, and fixes

Also X62s has buggy IOMMU implementation in bios. I use gentoo linux and I had screen freezes and X.org crashes until I added GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="intel_iommu=igfx_off" to /etc/default/grub Another problem is that some of usb3 devises don't work in the usb3 port. Adding iommu=sof to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINU...

Re: X62 problems, quirks, and fixes

Ok, some hardware tips: 2) maglev fan from x200 fits perfectly in my X62s, u need to cut off the old fan from the cooling system. Now the laptop doesn't awake all my family when starts to rotate. What do you mean by cut off? Here are some photos how it looks like http://pasteboard.co/6gQ2RBmsQ.jpg ...

Do you have an updated bios version? Are you sure this is not a hardware failure like dead or dying video, memory etc? Have you tried an external monitor?

I haven't seen in the thread that there are actually 2 versions of the board: X62 and X62s with a smaller fan. I order X62s as a replacement for X61s. Hope this default logic is the right one.

Just a frendly comment that increasing of the refresh rate could possibly lead to the decrease in panel life. Atleast my QXGA from t60 started to die after a few years at 60Hz.
