Re: T60 + windows 7

Thanks for the steer. I am going to do some more research. Thinking about it, I guess I am wishful thinking as there is so much discussion about this very issue with no fix. Such thinking is typical I suppose of people like me who operate at an ad hoc level with computer architecture and don't bothe...

Re: T60 + windows 7

Thanks. The manual is explicit: 'Only 64-bit operating systems support more than 3GB of system memory (RAM). Intel Chipsets 945GM and 945PM do not support more than 3GB system memory (RAM), even when a 64-bit operating system is installed.' However, manuals are never the last word (praise the Lord a...

T60 + windows 7

Hi, I wonder if anyone can give me a steer on installing Windows 7 on a T60 (1952) before I start experimenting. I have 4g of ram on Vista ultimate at the moment with only 3 recognised. Wiill W7 64-bit make a difference or am stuck with 3g ram even on W7 (whether 64-bit or 32-bit)? I also have an 64...

Re: T60 empty optical drive slot - can it be converted?

Thanks for this. It is the way I am going to go - ordered one from Hong Kong. However, I have posted a request for info on the most cost-effective 32gb SSD that I can use iwth it. I'd like 64gb but the budget is not there.

Cheers, Jay

Fastest SSD 32gb for a T60?

What is the best 32GB SSD that I can fit in a T60 [type1952] that will not cost an arm and a leg? I want to use it as my boot drive by fitting it in a 2nd HDD caddy for the ultraslim slot.

Thx, Jay

Re: x31 2672 160gb 2gb xp sp3 1.7hz what can I do to speed it up

But I just had a quick gander at the write and read times of the Kingspec and Transcend 64gb SSD ide and the Kingspec knocks spots - according the the quoted performance - off the Transcend. The Transcend 2.5" IDE Laptop Drive MLC * High quality genuine Transcend product * 64GB Solid state laptop Fl...

Re: x31 2672 160gb 2gb xp sp3 1.7hz what can I do to speed it up

Thanks for the tip on the Kingspec. But an x31 cannot convert to Sata except externally, which kind of defeats the whole purpose. Can you advise on the fastest ide SSD. And the sky is not the limit. I may settle for an expensive 32gb ssd for the OS and my working files and use a big CFII for extra d...

Re: x31 2672 160gb 2gb xp sp3 1.7hz what can I do to speed it up

You're right. The X31 is really neat. Apart from who gave it to me, I enjoy using it for itself, the way one does anything that integrates into you. I get the same kick when I get on my road bike - it becomes an extension of yourself. Brill. I have spent the morning looking this. I discovered a Troj...

T60 empty optical drive slot - can it be converted?

I have been offered a T60 1.83mhz 4gb which has had the optical drivde removed. I have a couple of external ones anyway and I don't need CD or DVD R/W internal drive. I believe Blu-Ray is out of the question. But can I adapt the slot for any other useful functions? Obviously I'd have to do some inte...

A mobo of a dead end or built-in obsolecence? I can't believe there is no way one can't soup up an old laptop. The trouble is I am not computer-savvy enough to know what the design contraints are but thanks for the reply.

I know this is flogging the dead horse but it was a pressie from mummy. I am trying to run some Adobe CS5 progs on it and... I've ordered an SSD 60gb and I am going to try Windows7. But is there anything I can do with it...even if I have to get the soldering iron out? Eg, is there anyway one can inp...
