Re: L412

Early on in ownership of my L412 I had similar issues. Subsequent bios updates seem to have solved this. Have had no issues for the past 3 years.

Re: FS L412 powerful laptop, affordable price *pic*

fwiw, I have used one of these for the past 3.5 years and have encountered zero issues. It stays docked, connected to a 27" monitor via displayport and a usb keyboard. Used for an insurance estimating (xactimate) program and it handles it without any trouble. A very good machine in my opinion. Good ...

Vector linux 7.0 on my T40p. Very smooth. I use firefox, chromium and seamonkey. No reason for the multiple browsers, just like to try different things.

Re: x41 tablet recovery partition

Tried Android on an X41t. It ran fine, albeit a little hot temp wise. Seemed to be a novelty though. OP's concerns led me to this: http://micropctalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2656

I have not tried this but I have the necessary ingredients and may give it a go.

I have used Vector linux, http://vectorlinux.com/, on a similar spec'd Toshiba and all was well. Running it now on a T40 and an X41t.

I'm not too familiar with the compatibility of these cpu's. That's the reason I included the spec sheet link. That being said, if You don't think it's compatible George, I'm inclined to agree with you based on your knowledge.

I may start this project by looking for a dead T6x with above average plastics and go from there. It will then be stripped cleaned and prepared for the installation of a proper board.

Thanks Cigarguy. Good to know. I may look for a parts machine with a bad motherboard and build up a machine with a kit from Tuus. I like the satisfaction of a dyi. Gathering info and assessing costs.

Need some T6x answers

I may be moving on from my T40. I want to stay with a 14" 4:3 screen. What are the memory limits on a T6x running a 64 bit OS? I figure a machine which is maxed out memory wise, SSD and a decent processor should hold me over for a few years. The couple of T40's that I use have served me extremely we...

Re: who's moved on from T43 / T42? recommendations please

I've been kicking around the same thoughts concerning my T40p. Flash laden websites are killing it. Still performs the jobs it was designed to do though. Have been considering a T6x to keep the 4:3 screen which I prefer. I have also been tempted by the new T430u although I hear some dissatisfaction ...

Not sure what specs the controller have. With that said buy a sata III ssd. They are backward compatible and can be re-purposed in another machine when the time comes to get a new laptop. Doing just that in my L412. Working fine.

Random sleep issue on L412 Win 7

I posted this a while back in the 'L' section. I am having a problem with my laptop, L412, it's running windows 7 , 32 bit. It runs along fine and then without warning it just goes to sleep. I don't think it's a heat related issue because it will sometimes happen within 5 minutes of start up. I' not...

rhombus, I have been using an exact spec'd machine as yours except I have a 60gb SSD installed. This SSd is an IBM 1.8" intended for use in a x41t. I use this T40p every day and am very pleased with the abilities. I get about 2.5 hours on a year old battery. The battery was purchased off ebaY for ~$...

T400plus, I have been using a 2.0gHz Dothan in my T40p for some time now and agree with you about the heat. I have just installed a new fan/heatsink and applied fresh AS5 and am now running in the 44 to 50C range. About 10C less that I was running prior to these changes. My usage is mainly iTunes st...

Re: Max T40 CPU

I have two T40 machines one with a 2.0 and the other with a 1.8. The 2.0 runs about 8 degrees C higher than the 1.8. Other than that I can't see much difference. Be careful with spending, as RBS has stated these machines aren't worth much.
