T61p Win 10 EQ
I'm looking for an EQ that would be compatible with the SoundMAX digital audio on the 6457 TP61p's. I want something that works regardless of the program driving the sound. I'm using the free DFX package right now and while it is good, it's not $30 good if you know what I mean. Any suggestions would...

Re: Playing games?
I play WoW on my T61p.
No, they were not intended to play games, but some of them can and do it well.

Re: Upgrading harddrive on T60; seagate hybrid vs SSD SATA I
I have 2 Seagate Monumentus 500GB drives. Call me a sucker for punishment, but I bought the second thinking (hoping, believing) that the first drive was just a dud. Don't get me wrong, they both work and work well, but they both have the same issues (documented here and on the Seagate forum). To ans...

ThinkPad display does not fully turn off
Just installed a new Seagate Monumentus XT 500GB drive. Works fantastically ... the way the original should have. Quick and Quiet! However, with the new Windows 7 64-bit install, I have run across an old issue. The TP screen never fully powers off, even though it is told to. There is a very slight "...

Re: Hybrid SSD drive - anyone tried it?
I just installed my second Seagate Monumentus XT drive. The difference is unbelieveable! The drive is operating the way I expected it should have all along. Quiet (can't even tell it is there) and the biggest difference I have noticed? The lack of heat coming from the palm rest! There must have been...

Re: Looking to refresh / upgrade my ThinkPad with new parts
OK, so I decided to take a leap last night and attempt to replace my hinges. All went well ... except they are the wrong hinges!!! Installed the BlueTooth adapter while I was in there ... and I can get the system to recognize it and turn it on, but when it tries to install drivers, it just cr...

Re: Looking to refresh / upgrade my ThinkPad with new parts
Thanks for the comments Hunter ... Just some more info on the heat/cooling. I've been running idle temps around the 60C mark ... with the fan not even running (something that didn't happen with the T7500 in place). The hottest I had it up to was today, 80C, while burning a video to DVD. Will have to...

Re: Looking to refresh / upgrade my ThinkPad with new parts
Downloaded the HMM, printed the necessary pages ... and left them on my desk at work! Replaced the CPU this morning any way. Machine runs great! MUCH, much cooler ... never expected it was going to be that much cooler. Perhaps the thermal paste that was there was past its prime and it is a co...

Re: Looking to refresh / upgrade my ThinkPad with new parts
Just won an ebay auction for a brand new T9300 ... $120USD delivered.
Based on the pricing I have seen, that is really good.

Started getting the following:

Press <ESC> to continue"
Any thoughts on what that really means?

Re: Looking to refresh / upgrade my ThinkPad with new parts
The parts are starting to arrive. Got my 2 x 4GB in from Cali today! Very surprised at the speed that one arrived! Memory-up is the seller on ebay. They were the only ones I saw who had a listing for 4GB modules. $170 including shipping ($78 each and $15 for S&H) ... not the cheapest memory out ther...

Re: T43 vs T60
Also, check ebay.
I was looking at some T61p's and they were in the price range of the T60 you mentioned.
For the money, you are going to be able to get a lot more ThinkPad than they are offering.

Re: Looking to refresh / upgrade my ThinkPad with new parts
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I have no fear taking my TP apart ... but going that far will be a first. Re: Looking to refresh / upgrade my ThinkPad with new parts
Ok, so here is the plan. I have ordered a new keyboard and palm rest, more just to refresh the machine and give it a "new" look than any other reason. I have also ordered a DVD-RW, Bluetooth model, new fan w/thermal paste, a new CMOS battery (for less than $3.00, it only makes sense to replace it wh...

It won't be too difficult, and after the first time disassembling and reassembling it is infinitely easier. Just follow the HMM (hardware maintenance manual) and you'll be just fine. OK, I've downloaded the HMM and wow, is it ever detailed (never really looked through it before with the intent of u...

Re: Looking to refresh my ThinkPad
Are there any good DIY threads on doing some of these things? Replacing the hinges is a big job from what I understand. Keyboard is easy. CMOS battery and Bluetooth adapter are something I haven't looked at. Optical drive is a no-brainer. And based on the last post, would consider replacing the fan(...

I do have the dedicated NVIDIA chip (256MB vs. the 512MB in the machine I linked to ... so another upgrade there besides processor and screen ... and DVD-RW and Bluetooth, etc). Looking to refresh / upgrade my ThinkPad with new parts
I have the 6459-CTO T61p. Even given careful use, it has seen better days. I am giving some thought to refreshing it and would like some input. Not that I recall.
First off, it was 2.5 years ago and it was a very traumatic experience.
Fortunately, working for Lenovo Canada, I was able to pull some strings and managed to deal with it without too much headache.

Internal temperatures
I have both my T61p (6459-CTO) and an R61i (8932-9XU). Both have new/clean Windows 7 installs on them, including TP Fan. One thing I have noticed is that the idle temps are WAY different. Running around 61C for the T61p and 45C for the R61i. I realize they are different machines ... I took the T61p ...

Re: BREAKING NEWS: T61 nVidia thinkpads now being repaired N/C
I'm going to throw this out there for comment / confirmation. My T61p has a manufacture date of 02/08. However, about 9 months after I purchased it, I had a coffee spill and the MB was replaced. I'm assuming, given all that I have read about the dates, the replacement MB would have been one of the n...

Re: T61 - reduced graphics performance during gameing
I had similar problems last year.
It turned out that I had started using a 65w AC adapter instead of the 90w the machine needed.
Also, 55C seems like a low temp, so I wonder if the processor/hardware is working full out.
Under gaming on mine (WoW), I am seeing 85C+ temps.
