Just got my refurb X260, a few questions

Just got my laptop this morning, still trying to adjust everything to my liking. Windows 10 questions: When I use the Track point scroll button, the middle one, it makes the Start menu open. How can I make this stop. Where is the control panel to fine tune the Start menu? The little arrow comes out ...

Re: T43p experiments and analysis *pictures*

After Ajkula listed the T43p I was extremely interested to start learning about that series since I've only ever touched ThinkPads prior and after. And I was curious to observe the LED boe-hydis panel and the RBS patented SATA mod . <snip> Finally the last cooling improvement was the southbridge wh...

What OS/2 forums are available?

Are there other forums to ask questions about OS/2? I went to OS2World.com forum but it is not allowing new registration. The official eComstation forum (forum.ecomstation.ru ) does not seem to have any new posts. I assume those people send an email to eCom Station for tech support.

Re: List of Thinkpads that Supported OS/2

Where to get OS/2 Warp nowadays? I found a great Abandonware site: https://winworldpc.com/. It has old Windows, Macintosh and miscellaneous OSs. I downloaded OS/2 Warp 4 and 4.52 but they need a serial number. I was hoping to test out if one would work on my T43 before possibly spending $50 USD on ...

That is a bay battery for T60 era and newer thinkpads, not for T43 era machines. It is listed as new, so it should be new. Re: WIFI Card - Intel vs. Atheros

I don't like the idea of fiddling with the motherboard for the SATA. I think I would rather just get the 2nd HDD on the Ultrabay and move my data there. Leaving my IDE HDD with nothing but the OS. I just saw this from an article on a Mac site (Low end Mac) to use on old PPC laptops. It is a SD card ...

Re: WIFI Card - Intel vs. Atheros

Sounds like I will be keeping the Atheros card installed. I have to agree that Atheros is great for Linux. I'll keep the Intel card as a back-up, hopefully it is one of the good ones in case I need it. Apple and their Broadcomm WIFI cards is the reason I always had trouble with Linux on my old Macs....

Has anyone noticed a quality difference between WIFI cards? Using an Atheros card, but also have the original Intel card. Re: R50 Screen on a R52 ?

I ended up buying a ThinkPad T43 I found on eBay.

14.1" 1.86GHz Pentium M 1GB DDR2 CD-RW/DVD-ROM, with no power supply or HD. I will reuse my power supply and 100GB HD from my R50. Pretty nice condition, but if anything breaks I will have several spare part from the R50 to use.

As long as you get a R52 with the same screen size, you'll be fine. It might just not like the wireless card from your R50 - don't know which one you have in it. Do bear in mind that these machines are a decade old now, and it shows, even if you're just "couch browsing". Good luck. ---Yeah, I downl...

R50 Screen on a R52 ?

I have a R50 with an essentially dead MB. I got it in November and after a month of trying, consensus here was that it had a dying Southbridge. Re: R50 - HDD needed to run a live CD ?

Re: R50 - HDD needed to run a live CD ?

Still sounds like a flaky motherboard to me. Could still be the Southbridge, since it's the input/output controller hub for the entire system. If you get some sort of stalling/hanging problem mid-way through an OS install and it doesn't seem to be related to an issue with bad media, bad optical drive or CPU capabilities, then I'd pull the MiniPCI card out of the system and see if that makes any difference. Typically I see this when instal...

Re: R50 - HDD needed to run a live CD ?

No, no HDD needed to boot a live CD. Force PAE won't work with the Pentium M CPU. You need an older kernel than comes with Ubuntu 14.04.
