How loud is the fan, and around what temperatures does it tend to kick in?

Re: 16:10 returns to ThinkPads: The X1 Nano

This is more a side note of the ram limitation: I don't know if it's the nature of the ongoing "advancement" of modern software or some kind of deal between OEMs and OS designers to add more bloat to justify chasing higher specs, but with just Microsoft Teams and Chrome open with a few tabs I'm at 6...

Re: 16:10 returns to ThinkPads: The X1 Nano

which is why I will never upgrade past the **30 gen. I like classic T-Series ThinkPads. I like the 7 row, Integrated Numpad, ThinkLight, lid latch, Ultrabay. Even the **20 gen is still plenty fast and capable for laptop things, I'm using a T420 daily since this time last year, and my eGPU takes car...

Re: 16:10 returns to ThinkPads: The X1 Nano

You can probably just run it at 200% DPI and it should be just like native FHD, but sharper. Right, but then you lose "the ability to stack three 1280x707 windows atop each other or three side by side through manual placement." I'm just saying that my eyes would bleed with 4K in a 14" and 100% dpi ...

Re: 16:10 returns to ThinkPads: The X1 Nano

However, a laptop is a sum of many different metrics including performance, portability, and aesthetics. This is what I've learned while playing around with 16:9 15" and 17" gaming laptops, and a 34" 1440p ultrawide gaming monitor. I've found I can tolerate 16:9 1080p on 14" or larger (1200 or 1440...

Re: 16:10 returns to ThinkPads: The X1 Nano

The usb-c mini dock solves the port issues for me when plugged/charging. I believe the Tiger Lake cpu options for the X1 Nano will be 15W? So the power draw on the X1 Nano should be less than the 45W that the mini dock can provide. By comparison, the T14s with 4750u amd processor (15W tdp) only draw...

Sorry, I can only tell you this after the boards are out. This depends on the chipsets and the EC they used. I'm still interested. I really like supporting HOPE in making these, but it seems this generation Intel is a bit of a dud due to disabled undervolting and lack of advancement in process node...

Updated 11th Gen T700 Project Description: 7. Board will be designed by HOPE and his factory. This gives me much more confidence and I'm now considering buying. Funny that xytech replied here, as I was going to mention how much I appreciate his transparency on the X2100 custom project and other mods. The transparency here for the T700 is severely lacking, at least publicly. I'd be much more inclined to support the T700 if as many details as possible were pr...

Re: Thinkpad T700 i7-10710 private project

I have an X62 and T70 from 51nb, and by far the biggest drawback is not being able to control my fans with any kind of software (besides some powershell script for X62 that doesn't work very well). Speedfan, HWINFO, etc. are unable to pick up on any sensors to control the fans myself, so I have to r...

The trickiest part is cutting the plastic tab from which you pull out the ccfl lamp. It's really just two snips with a jewelry cutter then a peeling back of the plastic. Followed by a third snip.

Re: Is it possible to replace the backlight lamp on a T61p?

Yep. Ask xiphmont for an LED backlight kit, and specify your display size and aspect ratio. Then follow his guide at: https://people.xiph.org/~xiphmont/thinkpad/led-backlight.shtml You can pm or email him. Although the guide is for X60/61 tablets and non-tablets, I recently did the mod on my 14.1" T...

Re: Anyone else ditching the Thinkpad?!

I've kind of ditched Lenovo by going with T70 and X62, but not ThinkPad since only the motherboard and some display components are truly made by others. If either of those laptops were to die then I'd still look into a P51 and X1 Carbon before committing to a Surface Book or Macbook Pro 15". No othe...

Re: X61T SXGA+ IPS Panel into 14" T60?

He's installing a T70 into a T60. Another option is getting an X62, but if you already have a T70 then that's a big cost to pay. The idea of fitting a small 12" display into a 14" shell is the most ludicrous thing I've ever heard. Not only is it not worth the trouble, but the outcome is so backwards...

X62 is not that bad, but there is definitely a "play at your own risk" aspect to these projects. Thankfully the risk has payed off for me. I love mine. T70 has some keyboard and trackpoint issues that need to be ironed out.

Even if you only find the display without the entire assembly, such as here: https://goo.gl/KbBDWF the installation is easier than what you see in the blog. You would remove the lcd assembly, remove the bezel, remove the display, place the new display in, and put everything back. No removing and cut...

You don't need to follow the guide in that blog you linked. That is for installing an X60 Tablet display into an X60 non-tablet machine. Which is a very cumbersome mod. Upgrading your X60 tablet display to SXGA+ is way easier.

Re: Thinkpadders, do NOT Rejoice, WEEP and/or DESPAIR!

Probably the #2 feature was to add a better display for programming and editing paper (16:10) but imho what we really wanted was a 3:2 display; you can buy a MacBook Pro if you want a 16:10 display. So it's not like you have no options if 16:10 is your thing. You could also buy a Surface Laptop, Su...

Re: X62 problems, quirks, and fixes

Nice! I'll definitely check it out. I gave up on the 0107 EC so I'm currently using the 1012 2nd Batch BIOS with 0708 EC; that one was optimized for the 1st batch. It makes the fan really quiet (read: inactive), so my X62 idles around 53 deg C, and only turns on when the temps get ridiculously high....

Re: X62 problems, quirks, and fixes

I have a 2nd batch X62 with bios 1012 and embedded controller (ec) 0106. The ec is really meant for the 3rd batch and later, but I've found it works perfectly for the 2nd batch aside from one issue: at lower temps (35-37 deg C) instead of turning off the fan goes full blast. All I have to do is stre...
