Re: My super diverse laptops that make you jealous (PIC INSI

It would be boring to have just two or three aspect ratios (4:3, 16:10, 16:9), two operating systems (XP and 7), and one brand (Thinkpad). I pity you guys! just goes to show that variety ain't all it's cracked up to be. a lot of mediocrity in, just means a lot of mediocrity out. :P seriously, the o...

Re: Best O/S for an X31/X32?

my recollection when i tried experimenting with win7 on my x32 (2GB, 320gb 7200rpm drive) is that win7 doesn't support the ati video chipset on the x31/32. i was forced to run the generic VGA driver which caused BSODs when i ran VMs on the laptop. playback of video was a bit choppy with the generic ...

Re: Any X201 owners here running Air Video HD?

i run Air Video on a VM hosted on one of my x200s laptops. you'll probably get the best performance if your video is already in mp4 format and not have to do the conversion. i occasionally use it to stream a movie or clip to my ipad. what other questions do you have? it's a pretty sraightforward app...

WTB: X61S NM/MINT condition

I hoping someone out there has a *really* condition X61S that they want to sell, NM/MINT would be preferred. Screen must be perfect - no dead pixels, scratches, pressure marks, etc. I can be reached via PM or email: gt5565@yahoodotcom (remove dot word and substitute the real thing) Thanks. PS. If yo...

and if the password from the seller doesn't work, it might be advisable to replace the battery w/a fresh one while the system is powered on.

Re: Got my X61 but... it has a Supervisor Password!

So there is a Supervisor Password and if the CMOS battery dies it will mean I'll have a doorstop with the Thinkpad logo on it. the password is written to an eeprom which means it doesn't need or care about the power level of the CMOS battery. as long as you don't need to get into the BIOS to change...

do you need a user's manual? a laptop isn't that much different than a desktop in many respects. was there something specific to operations on a laptop [or thinkpad] that you needed answers for?

reading your post, it seems like a win7 book might be the most help.

Re: X201 + NIC Expresscard == wont boot, recommendations

Just a possibility. After booting successfully and then plugging in your card, open Windows Device Manager and see which IRQ's and Addresses's it's using (click on device, then click on the Resources tab). Change setting from Automatic to Manual and manually enter the same information. The question...

Yep, I tried that last night with no luck. There was also a network boot order and I set that use the HD first but that didn't make a difference either.

X201 + NIC Expresscard == wont boot, recommendations

Hi, all. I needed to add more GigE ports to my x201 (for VMWare) and recently purchased a Startech EC2000S dual NIC Expresscard (uses a Realtek chipset). The problem is that the laptop won’t boot when the card is plugged in – the system freezes at the Thinkpad logo. The only way to get this combo to...

Re: 240.. X30.. X61.... Which one next? X20x or X30x?

the x201i used a slightly slower i3 (i3 has a smaller cache and lacks turbo mode). if you don't run any cpu intensive apps, you'll likely be fine. i would expect to see the 201i priced a bit lower (at least $100 less), otherwise i'd stick with the 201. I don't really want a touchpad, so perhaps the ...

u751920's post reminded me about the other shortcoming with the x301. battery options are very limited - no extended cell option and the internal drive battery is expen$ive and only extends runtime for ~2 hrs.

i bought an x220 in the the 1st/2nd week that they came out and other than the battery slice option, which does give an extended runtime, i felt the x201 was a more productive machine. i wound up returning it and went back to using my x201. x220 cons: - temps when pushing the cpu (at 70-80% load) re...

overall useability: x201 (nice blend of cpu power, battery life, and screen resolution)

my dream machine would be a 5:4 LCD (1280x1024) in something approximating the size of the x61s but with x201 cpu power and battery life.

Some have noticed at Notebook Review that you cannot order the camera with the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300, 3x3 WiFi option. way early to speculate if the series4 is a real contender against the x220. samsung has never really had much, if any, reputation as a business laptop, and with little info on pricing, etc. and until real-world reports by users can inform us on how the laptop performs in the field - build quality, p...
