Re: Has anybody tried Epoxy putty for damaged laptop plastics?

You can buy a product called Plastic Weld at any chain auto parts store. It is a two part product, but I don't know (I don't think so) if it acts as a solvent to bond the plastic together or if it is just an incredibly strong adhesive. I have never used it though I have a package of it sitting in t...

Re: UltraNav Memory Leak

The issue came back and the only way to stop it is to disable Windows update altogether.

I already have the Microsoft patch that was supposed to fix memory leaks.

I think Microsoft is trying to force Windows 10 on me.

I think you might be right.

I had the same issue when I checked for Windows updates.

The second time I checked the update worked normally. I reinstalled the driver and so far so good.

UltraNav Memory Leak

Anybody else experiencing memory leaks with Lenovo's UltraNav driver? I find that the svchost.exe process that controls the driver uses up ~500MB of RAM and 100% CPU on one of the threads and the fan is running full blast. I am using W7 64 with latest version of the driver for my Thinkpad (T410s). I...

$400 is on the high side, but if you're buying one from a store versus private party you're going to pay more. $400 may also include Canadian sales tax (13%).

Re: Do T410 series support dual channel memory?

I only asked because I wanted to keep balanced memory if it was utilized in Thinkpads. 2gbx2gb or 4gbx4gb. You need to have the same amount of ram in each slot for dual channel. Not 100% right. From T60 (945) era it can use asymmetric dual channel mode (2 + 1GB). I think this feature also exist in ...

T410s VGA Out Flickering

When I use the VGA output on my T410s I see lines flickering on the screen. Especially on white backgrounds I can see very subtle flickering lines going down the screen. I've tested my monitor and it's not the monitor or the cable. Anybody encountered this problem? My laptop developed a crack in the...

How far back can the LCD open on the new T450 and T550 thinkpads? They never mention it in any of the reviews I've looked at. I assume it can't open nearly 180 degrees like on the old thinkpads? Did they sabotage the thinkpad to make the Yoga more appealing? If you use a laptop riser being able to r...

Re: Bought a T410s on Ebay. That makes two T410's

Nice price! One thing I don't like about the T410s is the case is weak. I have a crack in the case inside the screw hole where one of the screws attaches in the corner near the optical drive. Since the case is cracked the screw is not doing it's job and the entire right side of the laptop flexes whe...

What's wrong with TLC? Vastly inferior NAND when compared to MLC - let alone SLC - and the drives featuring it are not *that* much cheaper to justify the purchase IMO. I recently bought a Samsung 850 EVO. Out of the drives in the price range it was the fastest (500 mb read and write) and had the lo...

Pretty common in academia in Canada, more so with institutions, but you do see individuals with thinkpads as well.

If you're on holiday in North America you're probably not going to go to places where thinkpads are used the most.

Another option is to use Firefox Extended Support Release version. It still gets security fixes and doesn't have Australis. Pale Moon is actually based on this version of Firefox.

The simple solution is to use Tpfancontrol. I wouldn't disable CPU power management, it helps the CPU stay cool at idle. The best way to go about it is set the CPU speed to adaptive, fan control to balance all parameters, CPU power management enabled, and use Tpfancontrol. Tpfancontrol is actually p...
