Re: T500 suddenly died

Sorry to hear of your trouble.

I agree with Tony. The motherboard has failed. Replacements are reasonable. Even another working T500 is fairly inexpensive. You could move your memory and hard drive to the replacement.

The era doesn't have to end. Look for used manual transmission BMW's as your spare car. I just picked up a used E53 6MT.

Re: My Tesla Model 3 story (very long)

Thanks for sharing Ray. Many miles of smiles...who gets the 2000 BMW? My brother and sister in law placed deposits in March 2016 too. He ordered all the options and his delivery was delayed also. Once due to a defect. They couldn't find the gas tank. He finally took delivery about a month and a half...

Your ThinkPad 600 will work with any size hard drive.

I could have missed it in your posts but is your optical drive working?

Remove your SSD before sending or get another and recover the system and send in your P51 with that recovered drive.

Re: trying to recover data from dead T42 HDD

Sorry to hear you are having trouble. Depending on how much you want to recover the data is how far you want to go with moving platters. Attempting to move platters unless you have an idea of what you are doing could leave the data that still could be on the platters useless. If the data is that imp...

Re: Spent TWO YEARS putting this vintage thinkpad BEAST together. Hope you guys like it!

Beautiful beast! Thanks for sharing your hard work. In April 1999 I picked up a used 770Z from a notebook fanatic on fleabay. It was as new as they said that they bought it for testing. It was a model 9549-8AU and after the S/N on the bottom label it said 02-99 which is the date of manufacturer. Thi...

Proceed with the Windows 7 recovery disks which will erase the drive then recover the Windows 7 OS.

Re: T430 Ultrabay HDD getting 'removed' frequently

If you have another Ultrabay adapter I suggest to try it to see if that one has the same problem. Since this setup is working so well for another suggestion would be to find another like T430 and move all your memory and drives over. There are probably some T430's available on your favorite online a...

Carefully examine the USB ports.

They are known to fail and if some of the connector parts touch the outside metal that could cause the issue you are having.

Re: X1 win 7 no disks - USB backup????

A drive Clone is a mirrored copy of the hard drive. A backup image is one big file of your drive stored. Since windows won't allow booting the clone from an external USB drive make a backup image stored on the external USB drive. Should you need to restore that backup to your existing SSD or another...

Would this item ship to the US?

You are welcome.

Any X1 Carbon Gen 2 with the suspect FRU can fail in the fashion described so if anyone is looking at a X1 Carbon Gen 2 it is something to consider.

In my experience any part number that begins with 00HN is suspect. The 00UP motherboards appear to have fixed the issue.

Motherboards, motherboards. There seems to be a defect in the first run. Motherboard part numbers changed a new after the first year or so. Did I say motherboards? That and maybe some faulty USB ports and batteries too. Never had a touchbar fail. Had a bad digitizer on one touch screen. That is my e...

Re: T420 16gb RAM success stories? Will ECC (or "registered") work?

Has anyone in this thread actually have ever had 16Gb running in their T420?

Iirc the T420 chipset does not support 8Gb SO-DIMMS in any configuration.

This has been discussed before.

Re: thinkpad carbon x1 screen issues

Your problem description sounds like a Gen 2 model 20A7 or 20A8.

Replacing the motherboard is the only fix I know of.

Check your warranty hopefully there is still some time left.
