Re: Put in CMOS battery in reverse polarity. Possible damage? / Discharging residual charge

I was just about to order another board. Though I'd give it one more try. Pushed the power button, turned on again. Not sure how long it will be for. Swear to god the machine is toying with me.

Yeah, 1 second down then release for 1 second ten times. Then hold down for 30 secs. Tried that many a time.

Put in CMOS battery in reverse polarity. Possible damage? / Discharging residual charge

I had to replace the CMOS battery on my x220 a few weeks ago. Unfortunately the battery came with the terminals back to front. I only realised when the laptop went into a non-bootable state. When I say non-bootable state, I mean that pushing the power button does not turn it on. In this state I have...

Re: x220 not booting?

You were partially right Neil! It was the CMOS battery not the main battery.

Re: x220 not booting?

Sorry, that is what I meant. I have already tried that. I read a few posts about the power button wearing out, so I figured that it might be that. I disconnected the main and cmos battery and by plugging in the AC power, the machine booted up automatically without me pressing the power button. This ...

x220 not booting?

On Sunday I put my x220 down on its side. Picked it up a few hours later, would not boot. I have replaced the main board once previously, because my slimmed down m4 ssd shorted out. I have since put double insulation on the SSD. I disconnected, then reconnected the keyboard and then the machine boot...

Shorted out x220 mainboard. Repairable?

I shorted out the mainboard because I didn't insulate my ssd case when I made it thinner.

Can I repair it by replacing an SMD fuse on the mainboard or do I have to replace the whole mainboard?

Re: x220 not booting (no bios) after ssd swap. shorted mainboard?

Wow, thanks for finding that article for me.
Honestly this is a poor effort from Crucial. If you give end users the option of taking the drive down to 7mm, at least provide the minimum insulation.
It's just a layer of plastic. It's a miniscule cost compared to the SSD itself.

x220 not booting (no bios) after ssd swap. shorted mainboard?

I swapped out my SSD on my x220. It now no longer boots, no bios. The original was an old Intel X-25M SSD. The replacement was a Crucial M4. The x220 takes 7mm form-factor SSDs. So I removed the plastic spacer. When I booted the machine, I only got blank screen. I heard a faint clicking noise, as if...

Touchpad / trackpad on the x230 (moved fron wrong subforum)

Hi, My dad is looking for a laptop that is a good balance between portable yet powerful. I.e. small enough to use on a train, plane or in an airport, yet be able to do handle workloads like virtualization and databases. I've heard a lot about the x230. It seems perfect for him. However, I've heard r...

Re: 10.6.X on X60t / X60s / T60 ( CoreDuo, Core2Duo / GMA950 )

Thanks for putting this guide together. I did it from a retail disc I bought. It worked fine at first, but after successive boots, I got more and more hangs. Now it always hangs. When I boot verbose it does not hang at a consistent place. I followed the instructions in the first post of this thread ...
