Re: Slackware
I have Slackware 10.2 running on my T42. After install configuration is not that bad. However, if you plan on using wireless, I recommend downloading the 2.6 series kernel. Personally, I'm using a 2.6.12 series kernel since I've experienced wireless trouble with the 2.6.13 series. You also might ru...

Re: Slackware
I need to learn Unix-Linux. A classmate which just landed a job with Cisco (because of his experience in Unix) told me that if I really want to learn Linux I should install Slackware. Somebody else told me to go with SuSE, as it has the best hardware detection and software package in the Linux arra...

No WiFi LED on T42 with newest ipw2200 drivers/firmware?
After installing ipw2200 version 1.0.6 drivers on my T42 running Slack 10.1, the WiFi light will not go on. However, there is a wireless connection. ifconfig shows 2 interfaces and both kismet and ethereal works perfectly when sniffing on the wireless interface.

IBM Thinkpad Hard Drive Active Protection System HDAPS drive
Has anyone tried this yet? This is a Sourceforge project that's fairly new. They have an experimental version of the driver ready for downloading and testing.

Really.. I had no idea that you could use the Intel with Kismet. I'd love to be able to use the interal wifi. I should just buy a Prism II card. All this would just go away. Anyone have an extra one they don't need any more? Thanks, Plink The latest driver release (1.0.4) has support for moni...

Hmm.. I may have to get back to you on that. The card is an Orinoco Gold Classic. I'm not sure as to what firmware it has right now, but I've heard that could be a problem, so I have downloaded many of the old firmwares. I have to figure out which one to use. The linux I was using is the one in the...

I've given up on getting the rescue partiton to work. It doesn't matter now because I "accidently" corrupted the registry. I quickly recovered my last image from IBM's RR and it deleted every partiton except the one I recovered. I burned a set of recovery discs, so I can fully recover if I truely ne...

I think P is really supposed to mean that the model comes with the hard drive protection system. It will park the hard drives heads if it detects sudden acceleration. This does add to the cost of the system, but AFAIK has nothing to do with having specific components or a finger print reader. It on...

I was wondering, does any of the Access IBM software require the use of the recovery parititon other than the recovery disc creator?

Linux partitioning issues
After using Partition magic to create a new partition for Fedora Core 3, I can't access the IBM recovery partition anymore. Is this normal behavior? Is there anyway I can fix it? EDIT: I figured out how to access the partition from this site http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lnd...
