I tried reinstalling iTunes. This time I recieved a "Send Error Report" message box from Microsoft stating that "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close". I unintalled and tried once again and the same message appeared. This is the latest.

To answer the questions asked. Yes even the current version does not open and to the best of my knowledge the installer and everything else appears to be there also. The download states that it was successful, but the ITUNES program simply does not want to open.

Thanks for the control panel.... performance settings info. I was able to customize the appearance and performance a bit more to my liking but still unable to rid myself of that annoying blue rectangular ID box underneath the desktop icon.

Thanks AlphaKilo474 for the suggestion but I am unable to locate the "windows visual settings" tab anywhere. I can change icon size, color of highlighted area, location, etc., but not eliminate the colored underscored effect.

Could someone please tell me how to get rid of the highlighted color under each of my desktop icons. I prefer the ordinary transparent configuration.

Thanks a bunch. I looked into the software bundled with my notebook and it indicates that WINDVD5.0 is there. However, I did go to the InterVideo site and downloaded the trial 6.0 version. The flickering problem nolonger exsists.
My blinking solution will not be missed.

Frankly, to answer your question, I'm not sure. We popped the dvd in and it started to play. I was not aware that I had a choice of software. I have to assume that it is the software supplied by IBM.

I did not customize the drive. It has the standard drive: HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4242N.
The flickering is minimized a bit by rapidly blinking the eye's.
The 2739DUX is a wonderful machine by the way.
