Duh!
Fn+F5 did the trick! I've been online for over an hour now with no disconnects. Thanks folks. Hopefully I will remember to turn the radio on before I start scratching my head while attempting to use the awesome wireless at my local library!

Another Noobie Question
I bought a T42 2373 about 6 months ago on E-Bay, I'll chalk it up as a learning experience. It arrived with no serial number sticker, but seems to be working alright. I restarted the computer with Disks supplied by IBM, and am happy enough with the deal, though I know if I have further problems IBM ...

Actions after Rescue and Recovery
I just installed my new Hard Drive and Ram (thank you Brent) and completed the Rescue and Recovery process...Wondering what I should do next, other than use and enjoy my T42 :) I found a very helpful thread months ago, and saved it on a computer at work, but the providers of my paycheck decided none...

So, I received my R&R disks today, 2 days after making the call I think(!) Amazingly, there are 16 pages of Software License recovery mumbo jumbo in 30 plus languages AND one page of directions on how to carry out the job. Even I should be able to complete the job...now if I can just find the right ...

Gom Jabbar, thank you for taking the time to reply! Quite an extensive answer, and lots of stuff to digest and learn. I better get cracking. By the way, certainly no reason to  but I do tend to be a bit wordy. No wonder you had a hard time weeding through my dissertation to find the meat! :win...

Gom Jabbar, I looked in the FAQ section, and refreshed my memory as to how helpful it can be as you suggested. I do not see any concise info re using the Rescue and Recovery disks. I hesitate to ask too many questions, fearing someone will reply with a reference to coming to my home and doing it for...

After reading your many responses/suggestions I checked out Access IBM on my machine through All Programs. All that the HD lists is the battery maximiser wizard, a 2kb file. It does look like the HD was nuked, huh? I even stumbled upon the option to search the entire drive versus searching only thos...

Wow, I am impressed, and thankful for all the replies to my query! Plenty of helpful info, and plenty of answers from those with many feathers also. I pressed the Access IBM button, and got no response on the screen, a little more panic tickled my edges...Then I navigated from Start and found the in...

To use the Access IBM button, do I already have to be hooked up to the internet for info to come my way? As I said, I just got the unit out of the box and haven't even taken the time to set up my ISP, and there are other things I must do before the sun sets. No I'm not lazy, just pressed for time li...

Warranty look up/serial number question
So, I just opened up my T42, which I bought through e-bay. I wanted to see if there was any warranty left, but see no serial number sticker on the unit!?! There are MAC address stickers on it from the previous owner, but nothing other than the Type number (2373), and the Windows COA. I am getting a ...

Buying a used T41
I have finally come upon a T41 with over a year's worth of warranty and the hardware I desire-CD-RW/DVD, 40 GHD, 768 MRam, 1.6 GHz Processor. Anyone see any red flags I might be careful of? T41 2374 TFU "premium factory warranty" until September 2007,special bid type of On Site Warranty. I called IB...

Dreaming of a T40
I have been thinking about purchasing a newer (versus my TP600 2645) laptop, and I have a question or two. I've seen one or two go here for a song, and kick myself for not knowing the "dibs" rule earlier, but so it goes... I don't use the computer for anything but internet cruising and e-mail, thoug...

I hope you are right James, as I am sure as a Senior Member you have way more experience than I...I just read and interpreted the error messages. I don't believe the IBM manual did me the favor of stating the itty bitty CMOS battery can cause a host of error messages. Yeah, I know, keep it simple, b...

Rebuilding 2645-45U
Howdy All! This forum should definitely help me as I undertake my System Board replacement of my TP600, it was great to find it. My original errors on boot up were 161, 191, 163...then 192 after setting the clock. Diagnostics says "Good luck with the SB" But I do have a CMOS battery coming after I m...
