Re: T530 adding a 2nd hard drive question.
With a T530, you should have an empty msata slot under the keyboard you can put a SSD in. It is only sata2 speed, so it won't be as fast as a sata3 ssd, but it is very good as a system cache LOL. Most use cases these days do not saturate SATA 3.0Gbit/s (variously called sata2, SATA2, SATA II). So t...

Re: T431
There is no T431 (at least for now).
Lenovo is releasing the T431s later this month. This model bear no resemblance to the T430 or T430s. It pretends to be a crippled MacBook Pro painted in black.

Re: Recovery disks for T430
You should have created the factory recovery discs right after you see Windows desktop for the first time. Also, such an image is not available for download. In any event, call Lenovo Support and explain your situation. Since you made a "honest mistake," they will likely send you a set of discs for ...

Re: t430 left palmrest heat
It's the hard drive. Or, more precisely, it's the main drive slot that is so confined that heat cannot escape and just builds up.
Also, the stock HDD is noisy. TPFanControl does subdue the stupid fan noise (cheap part, no doubt), but the HDD noise now becomes prominent.

You may want to check the Sandy Bridge chipset QM67 and the Ivy Bridge chipset QM77.

Re: mSATA SSD + HDD + SSD in DVD bay?
1. The T420 usually comes with a 2.5" 9mm HDD. You can retain this, or you can replace it with a 2.5" 9mm SSD. 2. Unless the PCI-Express WWAN/mSATA slot in the underside of the T420 has been occupied by a WWAN card, you can put a mSATA SSD in that slot. 3. You can replace the stock CD/DVD drive by a...

Re: anyone used a 1.8''/mSATA adapter in a T400s/T410s?
Yes, I have successfully replaced the stock 1.8" HDD in my T410s with a Crucial M4 mSATA SSD, using an adapter by Micro SATA Cables (www.microsatacables.com).
I used a cut-out piece of foam envelope (for the adapter) to pad the drive/adapter combo in the main bay.

Re: Performance Increase from mSATA
The CTO mSATA SSD 16GB is configured by Lenovo as a "file cache," not a regular drive. You can always change the BIOS setting to treat it as a regular drive, but it would be too small for either a Windows or a Linux installation. Alternatively, you can CTO a ThinkPad without the cache, then install ...

Re: T430 replacement screen without screen door effect
What you have is the LG Philips panel. From what I've gathered regarding T430 HD+ screens, the LG appears to be better than the Samsung, and the Samsung better than the AUO (AU Optronics). Of course, every person perceives (and judges) differently. I doubt that you would feel significantly better by...

Re: T430 over X1 Carbon & W530
Once I decided to upgrade from my T61, several machines have caught my attention. The X1C, W530, and T430. It became a goldilocks kind of situation. The X1C while a sweet machine didn't have all the options I wanted. The W530 on the other hand had everything and more, including a cost of around $10...

Re: T430
The mSATA SSD is not supplied in a standard configuration of T430(s). You can do the upgrade yourself by buying a mSATA SSD (Crucial, Mushkin, ADATA, Intel...) of the size you need, and inserting it in the WWAN/mSATA PCIe slot. This slot in in the underside of the notebook, next to the second RAM sl...

Re: Thinkpad T430 or T430s?
The T430s is slimmer and weighs less than the T430. (YouTube review comparing the two: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLpMSEfPw4Y .) Like the T430, the T430s can be upgraded to have up to 3 drives: mSATA SSD, 7mm HDD/SSD in the main bay, 7mm/9.5mm HDD/SSD in the UltraBay with a suitable caddy adapte...

Re: T510 - What a great model!
Glad you like your new T510. The T510 is indeed a great machine and, to me, has an understated beauty. I've been enjoying mine for nearly two years now. I configured mine with a dual-core i7 and FHD screen. Late last year, I bought a caddy, moved the 500GB HDD to the Ultrabay for storage, and put a ...
