is it okay NOT to install the sound driver for 770X?

I clean-installed W98 Second Edition on my 770X After the installation, I downloaded all the drivers and installed them on 770X as well. But I've had the greatest difficulty making sound work on my dos/windows98 games; some work but most DO NOT work. Then just for the heck of it, I did not install t...

Re: does 770X play DVD without MPEG board?

It will likely be a slideshow but you can always try. I played an MP4 video(which is more intensive than MP2 but still) on a Pentium 4 well surpassing 2GHz and only 256mb of RAM and it was barely ok sometimes and other times just was a complete mess. I'd say you likely need a 1GHz P3 to consider CP...

does 770X play DVD without MPEG board?

Does 770X, with P2-300Mhz, play DVD without the optional MPEG board?

I found an old PowerDVD software and it lists the minimum spec as P2-350Mhz with no mention of Videocard specs.

350Mhz isn't too far from 300Mhz...

Anybody tried it?

Re: Is 600x 650mhz a unicorn?

Did you ever find a 600X with a PIII? I was sorting through my old TPs trying to relist them, and got a tad overwhelmed with trying to remember everything about them. One of the ones that was marked as a 600E-2645-4AU (on the bottom and bezel), I booted up and the BIOS shows a 2645-4EU with a PIII ...

Re: X32 for W98SE AND W7 ?

Yes. There is no official good working video driver for Win7 for the ATI Radeon M6 in the X31/X32. You can get by with XP driver or half-arsed Vista driver, or some Omega driver, but I never got it to work as good as it worked on XP. Multi-monitor schemes are a pain, and most of the time don't work...

Re: X32 for W98SE AND W7 ?

Windows 7 --> have you checked if audio works? IIRC Win 7 doesn't have drivers for AC97-based sound chips. yes, it worked fine. in fact, i was able to watch youtube just fine, with 140p :) while video quality leaves much to be desired, the audio playback quality seemed flawless. as i said, it came ...

X32 for W98SE AND W7 ?

Does X32 support both W98SE AND W7? Officially, NO as W98SE support ended with X31 and the oldest model that supports W7 is X6x series. But I noticed that the difference between X31 and X32 is the CPU and CPU only; the Video and Sound systems are identical, which led me to believe that I may be able...

There seem to be three different versions of the Selectadocks, I, II, and III....Is there a difference between Version II and III? Re: Is 600x 650mhz a unicorn?

But frankly, much as I enjoyed having the 850MHz chips in my machines, I found it was actually very rare that I noticed any difference at all between standard PIII 650MHz performance and PIII 850MHz performance. The difference between PIII 850MHz and PIII 800 was definitely undetectable in regular ...

Re: IBM Thinkpad 760XL

Not to confuse the original poster, but my experience with 380s have been the opposite. They wouldn't read factory-printed recovery discs and Windows OEM discs. But the copies I made using a modern PC, they would read them fine. From this, I always thought that it's the "freshness" of the copy that ...

Can't find any one specific thread about it but the general gist seems to be a 750/850Mhz module that was desoldered and a 1Ghz die put on. He had access to a reballing and BGA soldering machine but I doubt Jefferson has that...so 850 is the limit I believe without diving too deep into OC hell. nop...

1) They are definitely less common then their 450/500Mhz counterparts, but not a unicorn. I'd say probably one every few weeks or so. Usually need to look for the specific type number as the Mhz is almost always listed wrong or not at all. 2) I believe people have and it works at full speed. 3) her...

Re: 600X clean install W98SE apminst.inf ???

Kinda found out my own answer, which is always a good thing :D

You need those drivers in the installation folder BEFORE the installation.

That way, you don't end up installing the apm drivers twice. APM drivers are kernel-level drivers so you need it early in the installation process

Re: Just bought a 600E

It really depends on your usage. At the least, you'd need to use W98 booting floppy disks to partition the hard drive, etc. Even if you have the recovery disc, it offers little to no option for partitioning the hard drive. and if you are like me, you'd go through several different hard drives and e...

To remove the remaining piece from the base, use hair dryer to heat up the plastic and the piece should easily come off with a bit of prying. By cd-r, I mean CD burner.

I've been lurking on Ebay for quite some time and I dont think I ever saw a CD-burner for the 600 series.

(And same for the 770 series)

If they do exist, are they just incredibly hard to find?

I'm aware that DVD drive exists for 600X but what about cd-r drive?

If not, is it possible to get one from the same era and transfer the mounting bracket so that it would fit inside 600X bay?

Did anyone ever try?

Back when Thinkpad 770 was the blingest piece of toy, I can see why the image loading warning was useful and necessary. But in 2019, doesn't everyone have an internet access with enough speed and usage allowance that few 10s megabytes of data won't dent their internet meter at all? Just wondering if...
