Re: New AMD based ThinkPads are coming

Great news for AMD, Ryzen is a promising architecture and it's nice to see it land on laptops.

But as far as TPs go, as long as there's no proper keyboard available, I'm afraid it won't change anything for us Chicklet-Negative Thinkpadders.

Looks like some people already know the specs 8) https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/6p5ixe/are_you_an_insider_and_if_so_will_you_be_buying/ It would be cool but I already own actual old-school Thinkpads. I use them for a variety of reasons, the Retro doesn't seem to have many of those thing...

"No, we're not going out of the PC business," Roettger said. "We can hardware and we want hardware". ROFL ! No, you cannot hardware anymore and you merely want to milk consumers. "The hardware sector is profitable and continues to be part of the core business of Lenovo." Actual translation : ...

Re: Lenovo says goodbye to the PC

His statements are quite contradictory actually with Lenovos behavior. They are in talks right now to buy Fujitsus PC business - is that the behavior of a PC manufacturer who is about to quit? I think it's the behaviour of shareholders who are forcing the CEO to buy something he doesn't want. YY al...

Re: Lenovo says goodbye to the PC

No he doesn´t. He doesn't ? Dann why does he no longer want to be number one and why does he want to spend his energy on new markets ? Assuming he's fine with Lenovo becoming a small PC manufacturer, how would the company not decline even faster ? Because nowhere did he mention that he wishes for f...

Re: Lenovo says goodbye to the PC

If you believe that then you don't seem to know much about business, if that's truly the plan they will be out of business very quickly - not a recipe any senior exec will want. But that's exactly what Lenovo's CEO wants : exiting the PC business. He's probably looking for potential buyers right no...

How you work that from the statement is beyond me.
To me it's a sensible inference. If Lenovo says it doesn't care about the PC market anymore, why would they strive to maintain their already poor standards ? Why lose margins by selecting better/more expensive components and waste money in QC ?

Oh I'd love it. But it would only go so far. To get things done properly, it's Lenovo altogether which has to go.

Re: Retro ThinkPad is.. alive!(?)

The T43 looked sexy in its days but now looks ancient. It's also too heavy to carry around. Nowadays there are 17.3" laptops that weigh less than the 14.1" T43. I can't think of any way to make a TP "not look ancient". Full black colour, 7-row-non-chicklet keyboard, trackpoint... yeah, you might ma...

Re: Retro ThinkPad is.. alive!(?)

As much as I appreciate the functionality of a T43, I wouldn't buy a T43 look-alike in 2017. That's a surprising statement coming from a dedicated Thinkpadder. Could you expand on this ? I've sold about 40 Thinkpads, mostly on this forum. The rate of depreciation increased over the past decade for ...

Re: Retro ThinkPad is.. alive!(?)

Here's a warning for everyone considering this Retro Thinkpad: Given its high price tag and small target market, it is going to depreciate super fast, much faster than the average Thinkpad or most other laptops. Buy it only if you intend to keep it for a long time, >5 years. For this reason alone, ...

There have been multiple occasions like on CES 2016 where he stated that they are still working on it. Which was probably the only thing he could do without breaking Lenovos NDA rules.
