Re: X1C4 vs. X1C6 for next machine
Thank you for taking time to respond. The main reason I posted this thread was to have these discussions. The different perspectives, information, and explanations enlighten me. :) Officially it doesn't, you have to get around it. But the hardware itself is fully modern (it's got pretty much all fea...

Re: X1C4 vs. X1C6 for next machine
The X1C4 is a really nice machine. Though it appears that you're a Linux guy, I must still say that it's the oldest generation you can install Windows 11 (W10 license, Secure Boot, TPM 2.0... it lacks only MBEC compared to Kaby Lake). Even if you don't need any of that, it'll help to extend the its...

I think (ha!) that I may be close to answering my own question. Notebookcheck has a review of a X1C4 with the FHD screen compared to a X1C4 with the WQHD screen. Overall, a 6% difference in battery run time in favor of the X1C4 with the FHD screen. https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-X1-Ca...

Re: Thinkpad X1C Gen 3 battery issues
Hey there, If you don't mind me asking, how do you have your Debian 12 (I'm assuming) install setup? For example, my E14 Gen 2 running Pop!_OS 22.04 (GNOME + Cosmic extension) with encrypted / partition chugs battery while my X1C4 running NixOS 24.05 (KDE 6) with non-encrypted / partition sips batte...

X1C4 vs. X1C6 for next machine
As the title suggests, I am looking at the X1C4 or the X1C6 as my next machine. I will mainly be doing coding, studying, system admin, or writing. I like the X1C4 that I am typing this on right now though I will be giving it to a relative. Having used a T23, X200s, X201, W500, and E490, the size is ...

Re: Which one should I get? X200, X200s or X120e
Like you, I had a Mac before switching to Th i nkPads. (September 2006 MacBook) I currently own a X200s that I use everyday. I've got model 7470-5HU with a 1440x900 display which is sharper than the 1280x800 display found in many others. That extra resolution helps a lot when programming in VIM. The...

I'd go with Arch Linux. You have a rather tiny base on which to build exactly the experience you want. Their wiki has excellent documentation as well. For example: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Le ... nkPad_X200

Re: Laptop for school X200s, X61T, X230
I would recommend the X200s or X201s with a 9-cell battery. I have one in my X200s and I regularly get over nine hours of runtime. Makes my other friends and classmates jealous. Just make sure that if you run a Linux distro on it, that you use ext4 for the filesystem. Btrfs is a bit too unstable if ...

This is an excellent system. I have the same model, but with half the RAM and a 160 GB, 7200 RPM hard drive. She can handle anything I throw at her. Good luck with the sale.

Re: Re: X200s & X61 - buying advice
Thanks for the info guys! Just one more question: is the 1280x800 screen used in x200s really terrible compared to contemporary notebooks? Or is it bearable? My budget might e tight, but I do not want to end with a screen that is a pain to look at... You mean the X200 or X200s? The X200 has a resol...

You can most likely find the information you need in the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the X230 T. Re: Numlock on T530?
I believe you'll need to use Fn+ScrLk key to activate Numlock. That said, I'm taking this from my X200s. I looked at a few pictures of the T530's keyboard and it looks like the integrated Numpad was removed. In the future, it would be best to start your threads in the correct forum to ensure that yo...

I prefer the low weight of my X200s as well as the high PPI count of the display as I like to be light on my feet while going through my day.

You could try this script that I put together for my X200s that I've uploaded here: http://sprunge.us/eQWQ?bash
Please be sure to read through it and modify the script to your choosing and OS as I run Arch Linux on my X200s.
Hope it helps.

Re: Best Power Output Results (include which Kernel)
I'm currently running at 6.30W - 6.45W at idle and ~7W to ~9W when I'm actively working depending on what radios are on and active. This is on a X200s mind you so the CPU is a low-voltage variant (which still has some serious power). I'm currently running the 3.3.7 kernel under Arch Linux and i3 as ...

You could try removing the drivers and installing the latest ones from Intel. Since the Windows 7 intallation is from a HP image, you want to install Windows 7 from scratch in order to rule out the OS.

I purchased a Genuine Lenovo ThinkPad Battery 47++ from Daniel ( ThinkPad Lover / Tiger Enterprises ) and could not be happier with it's performance (12+ hours on idle @ 6.71W and 9+ hours active @ 8.31W). Daniel did inform me that the battery had one cycle on it already which is in line with how I ...
