WTB: X301 Keyboard
Type 2776-TMU Fairly clean machine in the Goodwill "for parts bin" that may have had a wine spill. Machine powers on, led screen lights up, dvd tray will open. After about 5 secs the machine shuts down on its own with the "beep" heard on shutdown. Evidence of liquid under the power section of the ke...

Re: T400s-2808-DJU--32 or 64 bit?, Recovery Media available?
Found the COAs under the battery. All are W7 Pro and are lenovo stickers. W7 must have been optional in these. At this point Im needing some recovery disks, and im still contemplating what to do with the hard drive. The mSata and 1.8 ssd are about the same price. Leaning towards mSata there is an ad...

That looks like a wireless card. rofl. And they are getting 256G out of one of those. Un--flippin-believable.
I'm so far behind technology I'll never catch up. That's why I come here.
That would surely fit in the 1.8 inch drive slot.

Re: T400s-2808-DJU--32 or 64 bit?, Recovery Media available?
Anything to ditch the 1.8 SSD would be a plus, but I don't want to lose the DVD drive--in fact I'd love to find a blue ray to fit in that ultrabay. This devise, mSATA SSD + adapter, with this I can fit a 2.5 SSD in the space allocated for the 1.8 SSD? I don't mind a little cut and paste if need be. ...

I duck in every now and again lol... When I go home I'm going to pull a battery out of one of these to see whether there's a COA there. These machines seem fairly new, suprising Lenovo would install XP on them. Dual Core Centrino Vpro 2.4 in these, P9400, 4 GB DDR3 RAM, SSD too? For XP, that's overk...

T400s-2808-DJU--32 or 64 bit?, Recovery Media available?
Recently picked up 3 T400s TPs, two have screen issues--none have hard drives. These are outfitted with the 1.8 Sata II HDDs and when I saw the price these are going for--that was a shock to the system. No wonder these were discarded from use. I'm sure someone in IT made some nice money selling thos...

Re: The End of XP...the end of pre-T43 Thinkpads?
"Usable" is my frustration with Microsoft. These machines have quite a bit of life left in them, and it just seems a shame that if we continue using them we may face security issues--on the Net. I suppose Norton will continue support, but at some point a year or two from now, we'll be too far behind...

Interesting...If I were to retain the "factory" heatsink and fan, what CPU would you go with for all-around general use? I don't game, but I do stream movies.
Thanks!

Re: The End of XP...the end of pre-T43 Thinkpads?
Seems a terrible waste to me, to relegate millions of tons of machines to the fire pits in various insundry places. But time marches on, I guess. At one point I thought about writing a letter to the New York Times editor, asking whether this outcome reflected Microsoft's so-called embrace of recycli...

The End of XP... the end of pre-T43 Thinkpads?
I've got a bunch of pre-T43 TPs I use from time to time. With the imminent demise of XP, are these machines going to go the way of the T-Rex? If anyone has tried loading XP SP3 lately, I think microsoft has already begun the wind-down-- as I've seen issues with Windows Update not functioning on a fr...

Re: R61 CPU upgrade question
RBS: yep, cleaning up the CPU and Video Chip-- and Artic Silver is SOP for anything I pick up these days. The "goodies" are on the way. I also have an R500 and I'd like to run W7 on that one. I ordered two of the T7300 CPUs but on second thought I think the R500 can run a faster (or better) CPU than...

R61 CPU upgrade question
I have an R61 (8935-A47) in factory configuration with the Celeron M 540 (1.86GHZ) CPU. I want to install the T7300 CPU. Is this plug and play? Will a bios upgrade be needed, and more importantly, i have the intel chipset driver installed for the Celeron CPU. Will this chipset driver work for the T7...

Anyone noticed this? At first I thought it was my X41--but it does it on my T43 as well. Their home page is fine, trying to download drivers, etc. major stack overflow errors.

Actually, forum rules require some kind of asking price to be posted. Anywhere from free, to whatever you would hope for, then add OBO, if you're not firm on your price. I've sent a PM too, BTW. Where are these "forum rules" which require a price to be listed in Marketplace? I found Bill's GUIDELIN...

Re: WTB: R40 RAM, Rescue & Recovery discs, Misc.
Bob, Never got to respond to your PM so I'll do it here: 1) RAM from T40/R51 will be fine. 2) Pentium M 1.7 Banias is the fastest that these machines will take, not much of an upgrade over your current one. 3) No problem, the drive from the T40 will do great. 4) Arctic Silver in your local Radio Sh...

WTB: R40 RAM, Rescue & Recovery discs, Misc.
Not sure if anyone still has anything for one of these out there, but here goes anyway... This machine came with Windows XP, has the 1400 Screen, ATI graphics. 1) Looking for RAM, it came with 1G. I have some R51 and T40 sticks of 512--but I'm not sure if those are usuable in the R40. 2) It has a 1....

Re: Are these Motherboards goners?
Well, This is certainly an interesting process. Here's what happened. I decided to "practice" the R&R process on this T43 to learn the ropes before doing it on the T43p. Sooo. There was an 80GB HDD included which I wiped in PC-DOC. I loaded an IBM Firmware Disc and installed on HDD after the wipe. I...

What are the 7-character model numbers of those two T4x units?
The t42 is 2373-JXU, and the T43 is 2668-72U

Are these Motherboards goners?
I have a T42 and T43 that are both doing this: neither shows the IBM splash screen on startup. Blank screens usually. I've tried pressing the Southbridge area and no dice. If I power them on/off a number of times, every now and again I get the splash screen and can get into BIOS with no issues. Trie...

I've not posted much, but for the past 4 years I've been all over this board. What a great asset for Thinkpad owners. And I have several. My current "project" is a T43p, 14". It had a dim screen and I tried swapping a backlight in, but the project didn't exactly go swimmingly. Well, now I need a scr...

Re: T43 intermittantly sees HDD.
Thank you for your kind words of welcome, poshgeordie. I will take your advice and try that tonite. I defer to your experience, perhaps pushing down manually on the corner of the HDD is moving the Southbridge to its sweet spot, and I am not seeing that. The only reason I suspected the HDD was an err...

I'm rather new to posting though have been lurking for awhile. Mostly because you folks are light years advanced from me! But to the topic at hand: I have a T43 with the same problem. It is not the Southbridge. Initially I was getting HDD errors. I pushed down in the area of the HDD, an hola, it wor...
